Everyone always worry about the cap and all teams manipulate it and are fine. Relax enjoy the season, the cap is not your problem.

How did romo work out?

Most of those were extensions. You obviously don’t understand the difference.

Nightman, Do you know how they figure the cap if there's a lockout or a strike? Will teams have 100% of the cap? Or will they lose 6.25% of the cap for each game that's missed?

Me too.

I'm not into the "one & done" scenario.

Every year have a team that can win 10 or more games and eventually lady luck will smile on you and you'll get to the big game.

You win championships by being competitive and in the playoffs every year. NOT by going for these one year runs and mortgaging the future.

Teams are two thin nowadays with the salary cap to bet on one or two year runs. One or two injuries and your season is destroyed regardless.

Oh I agree. I grew up with the Cowboys going to the playoffs year after year.

And that's my goal for the team, get to the playoffs consistently.

Do that and SB appearances will come.

LOL.......Scandric? Doug Free? How many years ago was that?

Basically the ONLY restructures that have been done in the last few years are Frederick, Smith, and Witten. Witten was dumb because he quit. Frederick I have no issues because the guy is awesome.

Restructuring is something you do to get under the cap if you have mismanaged. Its not some cap management strategy like you and your hero keep suggesting. As if the Cowboys are going to restructure 4 or 5 players so they can sign a few big name guys for a year one year run. Its dumb and thats why they dont do it.

Do you understand the difference between strategy and tool? Tool?

The Scandric and Free restructures (2016) were done the year after Smith's second (2015) and the same year as the first of two Witten (2016) ones that you mentioned. They were also less than one year before the first Fredrick (2017) restructure you "have no issues with". Maybe read the articles instead of asking a question that kinda refutes what you are trying to say?

Actually Free's restructure was only 4 months before Frederick's first.

Scandric and Free havent been on the team for 3 years. And Smith was even before that? So thanks for proving my point. Can you come up with anything better or is this all you have?

Thanks for playing.

2016. And don't crawfish and change the narrative. You said we have cap space in 2019 because the last few years we haven't restructured. We restructured about 13m in 2018 and 27m in 2017. I use 2016 to show you it hasn't changed much. We did about 16m in 2016 and 30m in 2015. That's roughly about 4m difference in the 2, 2 year span. I'm assuming you don't want to go back further since you questioned my 2016 examples. We can if you want but it's not going to change. Our restructure policy, tool, or whatever you want to call it hasn't changed.

The, we "only" restructured Witten , Smith and Fred the past few years is right and they account for the 42m compared to the previous 2 years where we did about 46m. If you're hanging your hat on 4m difference that's on you.

And tool? Are we going there now?

I’ve been very clear. Restructuring is a tool you use sparingly. Which is exactly what we have been doing of late.

And he’ll yah our restructuring has changed big time.

If you extend a great young player like Frederick it’s gravy. You restructure oldies like Witten and romo simply for desperate reasons like making a run then it’s plain stupid. We simply dont do it anymore. Thankfully.

You were also clear that we have cap space in 2019 because we haven't been restructuring contracts like we use too, but we have. Lol I showed you we have done it for the past 4 years and we still have cap space in 2019. The past few years has been no different than the previous few years, which was no different than the previous few years. We have restructure over 80m the last 4 years and were setting at 20m in cap space right now after just signing Dlaw. Sign Cooper and we'll have at least 25m in cap space. All while restructuring 80m+ the past 4 years. And have 90m+ for next years cap.

You don't have to agree that we should restructure just for the sake of restructuring. But to say we have cap space in 2019 because we haven't restructured the last few years is flawed at best and just isn't true

Restructuring Romo was never bad. Despite all the dead money, we still saved $34M in cap space over his 2 dead years, and that was worst case scenario with a forced retirement for Dak.

You said restructuring is a tool that should be used to get under the cap. That's what the Romos and other restructures were for. We never did it to make a run. We never did the way nightman suggests we should do it that you so disagree with. It was and always has been to for cap relief.

I don't like mortgaging the future either. I think the way the Cowboys have been doing things lately is a drastic improvement compared to just 3-4 years ago...Drafting well is the key to everything really as far as building a long-term competitive team. Being attracted to "shiny" things all the time is not how winning orgs operate.
