I very rarely go to Santa Fe and know very little about the place, other than it's the headquarters for one of the most corrupt and inefficient state governments on the planet. (Our governor is running for president, by the way).

So I asked a co-worker who loves the place and goes often.

Regarding restaurants, she suggested "Maria's," a place called "Cafe Pasquales," and the Tesuque Market or Mercantile in the village of Tesuque, which is just north of Santa Fe.

She said the flea market is a big deal there and is the best place to shop. Lots of shopping around the plaza in old town.

Also, there are many good museums there.

In many cases, people from Texas or other states who vacation in New Mexico know more about Santa Fe than New Mexico natives like me who avoid the place. Be advised that everything is expensive there.

All I know about Taos is that Julia Roberts lives there, and no, we're not seeing each other anymore.

Hope that helps.

I'll try and see what I can find out about Santa Fe, other then the insight Chief gave into our wonderful state government and the fact its not bicycle friendly like ABQ is.

On second thought try .................
The Pink Adobe
Cafe Pasquals
El Nido
Rancho De Chimayo
Theres also 10 or so museums and trips out to the Pueblos

Its a nice time to come out, its a BEAUTIFUL morning so far

Oh and be prepared to answer the Most asked question in NM.... Green or Red?

Green! With Red on the side! :D!

Really, most people I know would rather go down to Cruces from ABQ, than go to Santa Fe. I have only been a couple times. It's a very touristy town these days, so there should be a lot to do and easy to find.

It's a bit of a tourist trap. Downtown area is all about people selling their Indian jewelry, etc.

Pasquales on Don Gaspar near the downtown plaza has some good food if it is still in business.

I really don't know any other SF eateries.

I just got back from Red River, NM a couple of weeks ago. They have a good little place called Texas Reds Steakhouse.
