He's talking to Max and Marcus Spears and they talking about how disfunctional the team is right now and Max is talking about JG being Jerrys puppet as most of these debates go. And SAS completely shuts Max up by saying this.

And im Paraphrasing,

I dont believe JG is Jerrys puppet for this very reason. Jerry wants to win first more then anything, and he started if off by giving Elliot almost 100million dollars. Youre not gonna sit there and tell me it was his choice to pay Elliot 100 million and not give him the ball. So this basically tells me one of two things. Either JG has given complete control of the offense to Kellen Moore, or JG is the guy who made the decision to go pass first. Because if it was up to Jerry he proved who he wanted to build around because he paid the guy(Elliot).

This makes 100% sense. Why did the organization decide to strip JG of play calling duties? Because he would abandon the run to go pass happy. I really think Jerry gave JG the keys to do it his way this yr with his job on the line.

He paid him because of a holdout. Doesn't really say much about Garrett at that point. That was a back against the wall decision. You would think they would run when you drafted him. Not wait til the big pay day.

Its clear youre not understanding what he's saying. He's saying with the money Jerry paid Elliot if Jerry was telling JG what to do it would be to stop abandoning the run. Elliot wasnt going to hold out into the season, he was going to report the saturday before the first game.

It is still all speculation, truth is we dont know who does what or who decides what.
I dont think jerry paying elliot has anything to do with whether he wanted to run heavy or not, he just paid him to keep him.
 
This is more a product of “take what the defense gives us” philosophy. Teams have been defending Zeke, and our OL is not as dominant as it once was— so KM goes pass bc that is what “is there to take” (in theory)

Couple the above with the simple fact that our defense has been playing like hot garbage so we have been playing from behind a TON—- and we get absolutely no support from special teams— and you have a recipe for Dak to be throwing 40+ passes a game.

We win games when the following things happen:

1. We control the LOS
2. We win TOP
3. We play with a lead
4. We don’t turn the ball over

If we ever lose any of the above criteria— it’s too much adversity for us to overcome and we freeze up, lose, and then talk about how we need to execute better going fwd (but not do anything to change our approach to practice or preparation, or personnel)

What it comes down to is Garrett's inability to mange the game. No one (coordinators) has any direction once the game gets started, there is no flow/rhythm to their game. That's on Garrett.
 
Was anyone else watching games where Elliot was shut down while Dak threw for 350+. Big difference between being pass happy and being realistic about you are doing well. OL wasn’t getting push and ere often selling out against the run.
 
If you watch the offense closely, it's obvious JG has his hands all over it. Especially after first few games. From the type of routes the receivers run to the play calling.
First few games, we didn't always run on first down. Now we do. We run much more button hook routes than we did earlier. A JG staple. We ran the plays much quicker.

Now we are back to waiting till the last seconds before a play is ran like Romo used to do. The ball came out much quicker but now Dak is waiting in the pocket much longer more often.
Probably for longer pass play. Another JG's trade mark. There were more design runs for Dak earlier. That's mostly gone too.

Maybe this is part of Jerry being pissed off at coaching. He knows JG has taken back the offense and it's not working. This may be one of the reason he is saying "Ok. JG. You want to do it your way. Fine. You better bring me a SB win then or else".

We don't know that. Then Jerry could've just waited. You would think with a 1st year OC that this would be the game plan anyway? Still makes absolutely no sense. That was supposed to be the idea when they brought in Linehan. Garrett is still a puppet in many aspects, the play calling just remains a mystery.

I disagree with this. And i pointed it out already. Jerry basically took the play calling away from JG because he wasnt running the ball. Dallas has been running the ball religiously since 2014, more then any team in the nfl.

I think some rely on the thought of JG being a puppet and Jerry being the real HC. Whats going on this yr just doesnt fit into that thought process

I've ALWAYS thought the "puppet" talk was stupid.

Made no sense to me.

It was just a manta unhappy fans chanted just give themselves something else to ***** about.

I'm not happy about losing either and there are several reasons for the lousy season, but Garrett being a "puppet" of Jerry's ain't one of them.

I am baffled by how many people on ESPN and CBS and FOX and the NFL Network talk about the lack of carries for Elliott when no team in the NFL these days is continuing to give the ball to the running back once they fall behind by 2 scores. If there is a team giving the ball to a rb 25 to 30 times a game in any scenario except having a big lead Id like to know about it. No one is doing it anymore, it is a copy cat league and a throw first game these days, yet everyone wants to be amazed and appalled when the Cowboys do it? weird

I don't listen to SAS. I don't like him. I disagree with him almost always. But once in a while, he is right.

But that doesn't matter now. The problem is with our coaching. Sure we can point the finger at Jerry. But Garrett was given the keys to the kingdom to win games and get us a championship. He has failed miserably in that respect.
