1a. Antoine Cason, CB, Airzona, 6'0, 191, 4.49 - Experienced corner, consistent top performer, and determination to the best at his position. That's the kind of player I want on my team.

1b. Reggie Smith, CB/S, Oklahoma, 6'0, 196, 4.47 - Either Hamlin or Williams will be gone in a year. Smith will be ready to step in as the starter when that happens. Could turn out to be a solid corner, too, if Jerry signs Hamlin for the long term and Williams steps up his game under Campo.

2. Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State, 6'1, 218, 4.40
- Giving him the nod over Caldwell (who I'd be equally pleased with here) because of superior size, higher ceiling, and return abilities.

3. Jonathan Goff, ILB, Vanderbilt, 6'4, 245, 4.63 - Wasn't really considering taking an ILB this year but the Thomas signing suggests that this will be a position of need in the near future. Goff has the physical tools and intensity to be a solid MLB and can use his first year as a backup improving his coverage skills.

4. DeMario Pressley, DT, North Carolina State, 6'3, 301, 5.11 - Need to add depth with the impending move of Raitlif to DE, an aging Ferguson, and a trouble prone Tank Johnson.

5. Cory Boyd, RB, South Carolina, 6'0, 213, 4.51 - I'm in the minority in thinking that we don't need one of the top RBs or a smaller, faster back to "compliment" MBIII. Boyd is an all-around solid back whose strength is running between the tackles (fits out style), who blocks well, and who is an excellent receiver out of the backfield. Runs with an intensity and passion that is reminiscent of MBIII so that opposing defenses will not get a break when he is in the game.

6. Chris McDuffie OG, Clemson, 6'5, 330 - Versatile lineman who can play guard and center. Attempt to add depth to the line.

7. Nile Legania, CB, Wayne State, 5'10, 185, 4.24 - Possible K/P returner who might also be able to contribute on coverage units.

Previous version.

I like the first three picks. I think many here are going to say that picking Cason at 22 is a stretch but I want him. I'm not sure that Reggie Smith will be available that late in the first.

like the CB picks if both are available
I would take the best WR or RB available in the second--not a big fan of Thomas

WAY TOO EARLY for him IMO, he's a mid 2nd rounder after running over 4.5 AND he's more of a tampa 2 cover zone guy then a man to man guy anyway!
Probably will have to convert to safety!

1b. Reggie Smith, CB/S, Oklahoma, 6'0, 196, 4.47 - Either Haml
in or Williams will be gone in a year. Smith will be ready to step in as the starter when that happens. Could turn out to be a solid corner, too, if Jerry signs Hamlin for the long term and Williams steps up his game under Campo.

Just don't see the value in using both our top picks on a D.B.!
No one's sure we'll lose Hamlin, who knows if Roy iwll be gone, although it's likely, but if your 1st C.B. you take can take over for Henry like he should being picked at #22, then we could shift Henry to F.s. and Hamlin to S.S. if need be and don't discount Watkins either.
We need our 1st rounders to see the field in 08', drafting BOTH our 1st on the same position basically when all 4 of our D.B. positions are filled for 08' doens't make much sense to me!
We need BOTH our 1st rounders to make some kind of impact and get on the field, drafting both 1st rounders on the same position doens't make much sense to me, worry about what to do if Hamlin or Roy leave next year instead of using another 1st on the position this year!

2. Devin Thomas, WR, Michigan State, 6'1, 218, 4.40
- Giving him the nod over Caldwell (who I'd be equally pleased with here) because of superior size, higher ceiling, and return abilities.

Should be long gone by our pick in round 2!
</B>

3. Jonathan Goff, ILB, Vanderbilt, 6'4, 245, 4.63 - Wasn't really considering taking an ILB this year but the Thomas signing suggests that this will be a position of need in the near future. Goff has the physical tools and intensity to be a solid MLB and can use his first year as a backup improving his coverage skills.

dont' get the pick here at all!
3rd rounder who won't see the field AT ALL this year and possibly next year too!
We got James/Ayodelle/Carpenter/Burnett AND now Thomas at I.L.B., that's FIVE 5 I.L.B.'s where only 2 can start, so I don't see why we'd draft another I.L.B. in round 3, or ANY ROUND for that matter!

4. DeMario Pressley, DT, North Carolina State, 6'3, 301, 5.11 - Need to add depth with the impending move of Raitlif to DE, an aging Ferguson, and a trouble prone Tank Johnson.

A little too LIGHT to be a 3-4 N.T. IMO!

Runs with an intensity and passion that is reminiscent of MBIII so that opposing defenses will not get a break when he is in the game.

don't mind the pick if we actually waited this long to take a R.B.!

6. Chris McDuffie OG, Clemson, 6'5, 330 - Versatile lineman who can play guard and center. Attempt to add depth to the line.

don't have a problem with this pick either!

7. Nile Legania, CB, Wayne State, 5'10, 185, 4.24 - Possible K/P returner who might also be able to contribute on coverage units.

4.24?
If he's running 4.24 and is a 7th round prospect, something must be seriously off in his game!

So, I'd probably have to say I'd be EXTREMELY pissed off if this was our draft, minus Thomas in round 2, but he could be a late 1st round pick and even our pick at #22, so I doubt he's gonna be there in round 2 for us with is height/weight/speed combination.

I don't really like it. Taking a 2nd CB in the first and hoping he's better than Roy or he can play CB isn't a sound strategy in my mind. I also think 22nd is too high for Cason, unless the other top 3 guys happen to be gone (DRC, McKelvin and Jenkins) and even then it's a little sketchy.

I agree that it's possible to wait it out and take a RB late in the draft though, but I wouldn't wait too long.

Pretty nice Sassy ..... if it turned out that way I would not be dissapointed.

Although I would like a bigger WR and probably a better RB to tandem with Barber.

6'-1 218 and you'd like him bigger?
I like Hardy myself being 6'-5, BUT Thomas runs better routes and is faster also, which is anothe reason why he might even be our pick at #28 in round 1 and DEFINATELY be off the board by round 2 when our picks comes around!

Harsh! ;)

We disagree on a few points:

a. I'm not drafting to have as many rookies on the field as possible. I'm trying to project 1-2 years down the road and drafting players who will contribute after a little seasoning.

b. Antoine Cason is not the DB du jour because he hasn't put up gaudy combine numbers. His on-field production (played a lot of man to man) and intangibles are indisputable. I'm not going to quibble over whether he's worthy of the 22nd or 28th pick. He's a first round talent that I would love to have on my team.

c. Reggie Smith is an elite prospect at both CB and S. Sure, we could draft another position at this slot but I certainly wouldn't mind having the problem of too much talent in our defensive backfield. Safety has been a perennial problem prior to the arrival of Hamlin and there are no guarantees that both he and RW will be Cowboys after next season.

d. Thomas may or may not be there. I hope he is but will take Caldwell or Bennett if he's not.

e. The signing of Thomas indicates that the coaching staff feels that this position is in need of improvement. Thomas is signed for a year. Goff will not start next year but could step into the role afterwards. Don't see that as a "wasted" pick but an attempt to add talent where it will be needed in the near future.

f. In Wade's defense we don't need a big, fat, immobile DT but one who is quick and disruptive. The success of Raitliff indicates as much.

I understand, and that's why in my draft I used a 1st AND a 3rd rounder on a C.B. and a C.B./S combo, but I don't like using 1st round picks to sit around for a year or two before contributing, especially when we are in a superbowl run here!

I just havent' seen many or any mocks lately by sites that him him going in round 1, and like I said, his slow 40 times scares me off!

c. Reggie Smith is an elite prospect at both CB and S. Safety has been a perennial problem prior to the arrival of Hamlin and there are no guarantees that both he and RW will be Cowboys after next season.

I agree, but I just don't want to use 2 1st round picks on positions where we have the filled already with starters!

d. Thomas may or may not be there. I hope he is but will take Caldwell or Bennett if he's not.

I think Caldwell will be gone too with his 40 time he ran!
Bennett I don't like too much, at least not for round 2 pick!

e. The signing of Thomas indicates that the coaching staff feels that this position is in need of improvement. Thomas is signed for a year. Goff will not start next year but could step into the role afterwards. Don't see that as a "wasted" pick but an attempt to add talent where it will be needed in the near future.

I just don't think he's better than Burnett, or even Carpenter for that matter, and of course James is on the other side, Ayodelle is probably gone, but we signed Thomas because he's a PRO-BOWLER and is worth a one year deal in a year when we have a shot at the superbowl is all and provides leadership, I think that had more to do with it then needing an upgrade at that position cause he likes Burnett a lot.
Again, I just don't like using high draft picks on players who probably won't beat out our starters and possibly even our backups in Burnett and Carpenter!

f. In Wade's defense we don't need a big, fat, immobile DT but one who is quick and disruptive. The success of Raitliff indicates as much.

True, but I just think 6'-3 301 is too small still!

Different opinions, no big deal!

Antoine Cason's forty was not "slow" at 4.49. That's fine for a CB.

I heard it was 4.5 or higher, not sure the xact number, but I know at least a 4.5 if not higher!

No, it was 4.49.

And his vertical jump, broad jump, bench press were also very, very good.
