We should be thinking bye week in playoffs.

The NFC is made of the following records

9-1
6-3
6-4 - Dallas
6-4
6-4
6-4

Dallas 271 points scored
Dallas 188 points allowed

Only Chicago(282) has scored more points in the entire NFL.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I'm happy that we should be in the driver's seat for a wild card, at least.

If the g-men lose, we can take the lead in the division by beating them straight up and we already have the tiebreaker with southern division leading Carolina. However, I think Seattle has a better conference record than us so they would be the 2nd seed. Atleast for now. Plus they will get Hassleback and alexander returning.

Before we even talk about the byes, we need to defeat Tampa and New York.

I agree. Tampa has been playing teams hard lately. One week at a time.

Then it should say "the entire NFL."

My mistake. I scanned too quickly and missed the Chargers.

Point being... If I had to bet I would bet that BP is thinking first round bye and few games at home:D

At this point, I'm thinking 12-4 isn't out of the realm of possibility. Not probable, but very possible. As long as we avoid a letdown against Tampa on Thursday (don't think we will have a letdown), we should get on a roll. We will have 10 days to rest and prepare for the Giants, who are beaten up on both sides of the ball. The Beagles are done without McNabb. We'll destroy them on Christmas night. Detroit? Nuff said. We get an overrated New Orleans in Texas Stadium, and the Falcons are playing like crap and are on a downward spiral. We could very easily win all our remaining games, IF we can avoid stupid penalties and turnovers. We're more talented than any team left on our schedule. Now is the time to see if our maturity can match our talent. No more Washington debacles.

The only thing Dallas needs to be thinking about is beating the Bucs on Thursday.

You're right, but as fans, we can think about the season as a whole.

Too many games left.

To get a first round bye, Dallas has to run the table and Seattle and New York have to each lose one more game (starting this moment).

Carolina is making their move now, so between Seattle, New York, and the Panthers there's no room to lose.

With everyone virtually tied with the same record. We DONT have to run the table necessarily.

Exactly, the motto "One game at a time" applies to this thread.....
The team can take one game at a time, as fans we can start talking about playoffs. Here is a more accurate portrait of the NFC today:

1. Bears 9-1
2. Giants 6-3
3. Carolina 6-4
4. Seattle 6-4
5. New Orleans 6-4
6. Dallas 6-4
---
7. Atlanta 5-5
8. Philly 5-5
9. San Francisco 5-5

Does anyone here think that Atlanta, Philly or the 49ers will seriously challenge for a playoff spot this year? I will go out on a limb and say the 6 NFC playoff teams are set, it's just a question of how the seeds will fall.

We really just need to win out. We can't afford no more than one more loss if we want a chance at a bye week.

If you look at these teams' remaining schedules, you'll see we don't have to run the table to get a bye. It certainly wouldn't hurt, but we don't have to. Chicago is pretty much a given. They will get one of the byes. Seattle has a tough schedule remaining. They still have to play Denver on the road and San Diego at home. Carolina has 4 of their remaining 6 games on the road, plus Pittsburgh and the Giants at home. New Orleans has a pretty tough road as well, and I don't think they're as good as their record shows right now. Plus, we play New Orleans in Dallas, so we should have a tie breaker against them if we end up with the same record (assuming we beat them, which we will). The Giants are beat up and still have to play Carolina on the road, Jacksonville on the road, and Washington on the road (I know, but division rivalry). I think if we end up 11-5 we are in good shape for the other bye, assuming we beat the Giants. That Washington debacle sure looms large right now.
