Chargers top overall rankingsScouts Inc.
From quarterbacks to special teams to coaching (always a huge factor in the postseason), Scouts Inc. ranks the playoff teams 1-12. After ranking the teams, we assigned a value (1 point for first, 2 for second, etc.) and added the categories. The Chargers, the team with the lowest total, top our power rankings.
Unit rankings: QB | RB | Rec. | OL | DL | LB | DB | ST | Coaching
Overall rankings
Team QB RB Rec. OL DL LB DB STs Coach Total
1. Chargers 7 1 10 1 2 1 4 2 7 35
2. Ravens 4 10 8 10 1 2 1 3 4 43
3. Patriots 2 7 12 4 3 4 5 6 1 44
4. Bears 11 8 3 5 4 3 3 1 8 46
5. Eagles 6 4 5 2 7 7 2 11 5 49
6. Seahawks 5 6 6 9 11 6 6 5 3 57
7. Saints 3 5 4 6 10 9 7 7 9 60
8. Colts 1 11 1 3 12 12 10 8 6 64
9. Cowboys 10 9 2 12 6 5 9 9 2 64
10. Jets 8 12 7 8 9 8 8 4 10 74
11. Chiefs 9 2 11 7 8 11 11 10 11 80
12. Giants 12 3 9 11 5 10 12 12 12 86
Overall rankings
1. San Diego: (35 points): The Chargers' run game, defense and special teams are ready to carry this team. Super Bowl title hopes will rest on the arm of Philip Rivers.
2. Baltimore (43 points): Veteran QB Steve McNair and a stout defense have this team believing it can make it to Miami.
3. New England (44 points): A 12-4 team nobody talks about. Head coach Bill Belichick and his team always save their best for the postseason.
4. Chicago (46 points): The best team in the NFC, but it has serious QB issues with turnover-prone Rex Grossman at the helm.
5. Philadelphia (49 points): No NFC team is as hot as the Eagles. If veteran QB Jeff Garcia can keep playing at the same level, they have a chance to make it to the big game.
6. Seattle (57 points): The Seahawks underachieved and fought through injuries, but they still have a ton of talent.
7. New Orleans (60 points): The Saints' power ranking was a little low because of the defense. No surprise there. QB Drew Brees must be the one to carry this team.
8. Indianapolis (64 points): Despite having the best offense of all the teams in the power rankings, the Colts show what an awful defense can do to your overall number.
9. Dallas (64 points): The Cowboys looked so good about a month ago. Late-season bickering and a Swiss cheese defense must be corrected quickly.
10. N.Y. Jets (74 points): This team took advantage of a soft schedule and great coaching by Eric Mangini. The Jets don't have the best talent, but they are one of the more disciplined teams in the playoffs.
11. Kansas City (80 points): Hey, they didn't back in, they won in Week 17. Now that the Chiefs are here, they will ride star RB Larry Johnson as far as he can take them.
12. N.Y. Giants (86 points): Team Turmoil found a way to get in during the final week, but if QB Eli Manning does not play better, expect an early exit.
GO COWBOYS!!!!
