Looks like the game has passed Kiffin by since the holes are so glaring and little hope for improvement
with all the injuries and second stringers at the helm on our D line
.........our season may rest upon what level of improvement our D can show from here on out

We can easily lose 2 games to the Eagles if the Chip Kelly hex over Kiffin continues....His Oregon teams
ran over Kiffin's teams every time they faced each other and I would think that will be the way the Eagles will
try to attack us
.....hopefully our offense will be good enough to take 1 of 3 from the games against either the Lions, Saints and Packers ....
..win 2 of 3 from either the Vikes, Raiders or Bears
...win the other game against the Giants and split with the Skins...
...that's 7 wins, we still need help, division winner take all this year, no wild card

i've pretty much given up hope on even having a serviceable defense, without even an above average defensive line and LBs that can drop deep quickly enough Kiffin's 4-3 simply does not work. we're just going to have to outscore our opponents the rest of the way..

i predicted that the defense would be worse than a lot of experts were predicting, but not this bad. it's going to take a lot longer than I anticipated (assuming Jerry has the patience to even ride this out) to get the right pieces in the right places to make it work..

Much like Sean Lee I believe this defense will get things turned around. I don't think there is anything wrong with the scheme it comes down to same thing with any defensive schemes and that is player execution. Lee knows they are making mistakes in it, even if some fans don't understand that.

I hope so. It'll be easier if we can get pressure. These last two QBs have made that awfully hard to do.

We're making mistakes in coverage. That's the biggest thing right now. Those can get fixed, at least.

Cowboys need to find someway to get pressure on the QB, can't let them sit back there and pick us apart.

Completely perplexing to me why our defense is not better

Here's a thought.....

Signing another high priced CB and drafting another with our rd1+2 picks next year ought to do the trick
After all, it is " how well you defend the pass"

I agree and not claiming it is easy but guys have to know the depth they are dropping and the proper spacing. Zone will give up some catches but it should not give up yards after catch if played properly. WR makes the catch he has to pay for that catch and right now they are not. 2 yard catches are turning into 7 and 8 yard gains and the deep ball should be defended with 2 safeties back. I know for some the mindset is to junk the defense I just do not happen to be one of them. I do expect this defense to perform better.

At a minimum, this team should beat the Vikes & Raiders. With Vick hobbled, I like the match up versus the Eagles better. McCoy is still a problem.

The skins offense has been horrible all year. Worse case scenario, we should split with the Eagles and Skins.

The Lions & Bears games are a toss up. The Giants are a train wreck that should only get worse. The Saints game could be a nightmare.

After DEN, we don't really need to worry so much about nightmares. We can hang with them. I agree, though, the Saints are playing great football.

Our defenders also seem to be under the impression that it is illegal for RB out of the back field to catch passes so they are leaving them uncovered

I agree they are dopping into zone and not reacting back to the RB when they come out of the backfield. I don't care if the RB makes a 2 or 3 yard catch what I care about is coming up and making the sure tackle to keep it to a minimal gain. Zones will give up the catch, zones are not suppose to give up the additional yardage.

I can understand why people are concerned about the game passing Kiffin by, but I have no such concerns about Marinelli and it isn't like Kiffin would not listen if Marinelli suggested adjustments. The issue here is that the Tampa 2 is maximized with pressure and Dallas cannot get any over the last two games. They either need to figure out some adjustments or this defense will be toasted often.

Maybe we will see a switch to Marinelli taking more of the lead role as we get to the end of the year

if we keep switching coaches and defensive styles we'll never have the right personell, Jerry needs to develop a strategy and stick with it.

Jerry: I will do whatever the giants and patriots did last year. That is my strategy.

There are mistakes in the scheme and we're beat up on the D line.

This scheme has worked well and still works well elsewhere. I haven't reviewed the tape, but they're not running the Tampa 2 every down.

The only thing this defense can do for us now is to help us get a No. 8 overall pick in next year's draft.

This is my hope as well. I think Marinelli eventually gets the DC gig and is the next HC as well.

I don't want Marinelli anywhere near the HC job. I live in Michigan and watching him go through 0-16 was beyond painful.

Some guys are meant to be coordinators... some guys are not meant to be HCs.

I don't see Kiffin or the scheme as the problems. Plenty of teams use the same or similar scheme. Marinelli used the same scheme at Chicago last year.

We don't have the players that can cover and this is even worse in this scheme.

From 2010-2012 our pass defense was very bad. 2012 gets excused with all of the injuries. 2010 is almost forgotten about.

I think Carr and Scandrick are playing well. That leaves us down to Wilcox, Claiborne, Church, and the LB's.

I think Rivers and Manning each had a very low amount of time before they threw the ball (around 2.2 seconds). The problem with throwing the ball quickly is that you're less likely to make big plays. But in Dallas' case, Rivers and Manning each threw for over 400 yards and completed 83% of their passes. It tells me that our short zone coverage and covering the RB's coming out of the backfield is a major issue.
