Schlereth: I wouldn't invest two cents in George Pickens

I think they franchised Cee Dee and he held out . No guarantee he shows up to camp as a matter of fact I doubt he would . You could call his bluff let the fines pile up I guess
I think people are blowing Pickens' attitude out of proportion. Just my opinion. It's still business and a job and they rather get paid than not. They're all Divas in the end.

One bad game and the same people saying Pickens is better than Lamb are now saying don’t even resign him. He’s awful.

Well, Schlereth doesn't have to pay him so there's that. Then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I have reservations about paying Pickens, the same reservations I had before the Lions game. I also don't think it is necessary to have 2 WR1s. They offense still might be good enough if they shore up the OTs positions, and fix that defense.

I still think the best option is to tag Pickens and then look to trade him for the best draft pick you can get. For this to work, we need Pickens to finish the season strong.

The way I see it, IF (big if) we can get the defense to average over the offseason, there is a two year window to win something. Weakening your offense is counterproductive. Pay him on a 3-4 year deal and roll the dice.
Yep. D will be key, but I don't see how taking away the best WR we had most of the season---with a terrible single game---equals "get rid of him and go with Floney." Maybe, but a risk.

The only way you can justify it is if we get a 1st round pick or more back for him

If we pay Pickens we are moronic and stupid

(Of course that means Jerry will pay him )
Paying Pickens is a “typical” Cowboys move. Pay a guy who is a former malcontent with his former team who is still in his honeymoon phase with Cow boys, but has shown you the red flags from his former team are very real.

You either tag Pickens and let him play a year on the tag OR better yet, you tag him and ship him out on a trade to the highest bidder and replace him with a high draft pick that you received for trading him.

People here are gluttons for punishment. The Cowboys are in the hole they are in because they overvalue their own.

We don't have to roll the dice on a contract.
We can franchise him.
And I'd only do that depending on what we see through the end of the season.

That Detroit game rightfully cost Pickens money.

I think you nailed it.

Mark Schlereth is entitled to his opinion and I believe his criticism is somewhat valid. Personally, I believe George Pickens owns a receiving talent well-worth the risk--even though I really do believe he is totally capable of blowing a game late by making a bonehead penalty. His (literal) annual track record of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties supports that possibility.

That said, hearing Schlereth say:

"No way I would pay George Pickens."
"I wish I could buy him for what he's worth and sell him for what he thinks he is worth."
"There is no way I would invest a dime into that guy."
"I wouldn't invest two cents in that guy."
...within a 59-second audio clip is WAY too much overkill. Dude. You don't like the guy. Great. You made your point. Do you need a vomit bag to catch anything extra? Seriously, are you through? Say! You forgot to compare Pickens to a wooden nickel.

You forgot where you are my small text writing buddy!! You're in the ZONE!! If you're a media person and you're not praising the cowboys, people on here will hate you as if they did something bad to their families!! Like it's his opinion it's cool, just because he says it doesn't mean it'll be true!! Sheesh

He has a track record of immaturity and questionable efforts dating back to college.

Again I am all for signing/tagging him but let’s not pretend he’s not a bigger risk than some of our other guys we have and will re-sign.

Wrong take, Coog. Did you listen to the audio? Did you discern that I did not mention everything Schlereth said, which comprised the bulk of his commentary? Did you hear Schlereth himself say, "By the way, just on a tangent..."?

105.3 The Fan was interviewing an ex-12-year NFL veteran with three Super Bowl rings. Sure, I am certain the radio station wants 'Please give me your thoughts!' soundbites for ratings, but what they should be receiving from Schlereth are his professional football opinions concerning a professional football player when the conversation is about professional football.

Perhaps it's just me, but that's my expectation. If my take is wrong, 105.3 The Fan should dismiss people like Schlereth and reserve prime airtime for interviewing guys like you and me. Yeah. I could say 'By the way, just on a tangent...' (if asked about Jones as GM):

"No way I would hire Jerry Jones."

"I wish I could buy him for what he's worth and sell him for what he thinks he is worth."

"There is no way I would let that guy squat in his office a milli-second longer."

"I wouldn't miss any sleep firing that guy."

...but again, the media outlet did not secure an on-the-air interview time slot for guys like you and me, did they?

Pickens at 50% is better than 80% of the WRs in the league.

The hate brigade on Pickens is pathetic. They don’t give this same energy to AJ Brown though. Or Jamar Chase or Jefferson….one cries after wins, the other spits on people and the other sulks and stays quiet. Yet Pickens is the problem.
he quit on the team in the Detroit game.

zero effort.

everyone saw it.

Yeah, a trade off for Pickens for a good defense is great. I just don't believe that will happen. So they might as well pay Pickens.
