Schottenheimer on Lamb and Pickens not starting the game

Well, I don't think that part matters ... and is a better reason to punish them with losing playing time. I'm more concerned about winning games. That's the objective. I don't bench my best players until we have the game secure. I punish them a different way. Probably with a fine.
I agree with this..I see what he was doing, just feel the way you do, don't hurt the rest of the teams chances. Worked in this case, and since he can do it and we can't, I'm glad it did.

Did you not watch? Troy praised Schottenheimer and said that Jimmy did this same thing.
Agree…teams do this at every level all the way back to PeeWee leagues. Some people seem to think Schotty invented a new form of punishment.

National TV does matter.... to the player. BUT, I coached at a very high level for softball for 20 years. We were nationally ranked and I would never sit my starting pitcher in a big game to make a point... that isnt fair to the team. Id find a way to make them understand they need to be part of the team and follow team rules. I, like you, want wins. Be better as a coach to get players to follow your program.

It's not about them...the rest of the team, will see that and think, he'll bench the studs, he'll probably cut me. It's the psychological part of running a business or team, in this case.
He benched them? bahahahhahahahhahahahhahahahhahaahhahahahhaha.... thats like telling your kid they are grounded.... for wed night.

Two young men who are already playing a professional sports prima donna position, and recent multi-millionaires AND in Sin City? Hard to believe a curfew was broken! Shocked!
:muttley:

I like it only because most of our Head Coaches have been weak under Jerry. Just matters how the players view it which it seems to have been taken well. I just don't want it to be like Jason Garett when the players would talk about it afterwards and roll their eyes.

I see all these Pickens > Lamb threads or Lamb > Pickens threads now, and wonder if there is some mad genius behind this move too. He penalizes both of them together, they stay together, even in punishment. No jealous players, no one angry that the other one is getting more balls. Brothers on the field, and brothers in errr... late night Vegas night clubs.

Hey if I had a million dollars in Vegas I'd be out past curfew too

Troy did not say Jimmy did the same thing by benching Irvin and Harper at the same time to start a game. That never happened.

Schotty is lucky it was against the Raiders.

Pull that crap stunt against the Eagles, Rams, Bills, Chiefs or Ravens, the Cowboys would be down 14 - 0 and the game would pretty much be over at that point.

I like the move. I never supported letting star players run amuck. Hold them accountable.
I like the move too. I also like the idea that Schotty can make the move without fear of Jerry. I’ve been saying I would like accountability, well that was a sign of accountability. We did go 3 and out on that drive so whatever Lamb and Pickens did to get benched did hurt the team in the early part of the game. If they care about the team that will resonate.

I love it. Accountability. It was one series, but by benching them, he embarrassed them and made them look dumb and showed that their personal choices hurt the team.

By not divulging the nature of their offense, he is not shaming them, which upholds his relationship with them.

From a team perspective, if Schotty is willing to bench his best playmakers for doing stupid crap, then who isn’t he willing to bench? Message sent and hopefully received

And no long term damage done. He sacrificed a series that had zero impact on the game.

We can’t as fans whine about a culture having zero accountability and then moan when a HC actually disciplines players when they step out of line.

I am fine with Schotty doing exactly what he did, and hopefully it keeps the team focused and helps them keep their edge

It’s about the team, not the individual, and that is such a key lesson for this franchise to (re) learn
