Schottenheimer on Lamb and Pickens not starting the game

this is stupid. Like jimmy Johnson once said, if a special teams player fell asleep in a meeting, hed cut him the next day. If Emmitt Smith fell asleep in a team meeting , hed stand up and yell, NAP TIME EVERYONE! This was stupid ********. You arent sending any message to your all pro wrs.
Stop

To the guy who is looking for a contract??

Pickens has been alerted.....

GREAT MOVE BY SCHOTTY

Ps..I do somewhat agree with your Jimmy take but Jimmy had more tools to grind his HOF players than just benching. Alphas Hate mind games and love discipline Coaches. I think a curse out from Jimmy to Troy or Michael would hurt just as much or worse

Of course he did! The criticism just doesn’t hold up when you have fans hold these double standards for retired players or coaches they like.

These last two weeks were insane and if you’re trying to keep the team focused and together through tragedy and you have someone not pulling in same direction, you have to make a decision.

Let it slide or hold them accountable.

Looking at how GP, Lamb and Schottenheimer were fired up together. I’d say it worked

This is a family forum. Pls don't show that again! o_O

Schotty is lucky it was against the Raiders.

Pull that crap stunt against the Eagles, Rams, Bills, Chiefs or Ravens, the Cowboys would be down 14 - 0 and the game would pretty much be over at that point.
I think he wouldn't have done it against a better team. He knew he could do it against the Raiders and it worked out. But even a moron would know better than benching both against those teams you mentioned.

If it didn't work, it was stupid. It worked, and the players stepped up after. So how is it stupid?

His name is Brian Shottenheimer, not Jimmy Johnson. There is no one way to be a good leader. It’s a combination of things that gets a group of men to accomplish the task at hand. Being held accountable for not living up to the standards in place is part of that. Not doing that opens Pandora’s box for others to do the same. Hopefully you noticed that both Pickens and Lamb had great games after being held out of the first series. And if you think that punishment was a nothing burger, then you don’t really understand what it means to a player who’s always started to not be listed on the starting lineup. They’ll remember it for the rest of their lives.

Troy did not say Jimmy did the same thing by benching Irvin and Harper at the same time to start a game. That never happened.
He benched Irvin for sure. You’re off on this one AC. This is exactly the type of stuff Jimmy did.

After everything the team went through the last two weeks he needed the leaders to lead the rest of the team and hold them together.

They didn’t uphold their responsibility at a time when the rest of the team was honoring Marshawn. He held them accountable and as you can see, it paid off.

I think the benching of Lamb and Pickens for one series was symbolic, and basically a respectful corrective measure to put them and the team on notice that you have to stay committed in all required behavioral facets or responsibilities including leadership as a key player.

So just let them do whatever they want then? What a dumb take.

Agreed brother the NFL is not a place to sacrifice possessions by not having your best players on the field.
Why because the Cowboys are headed to the super bowl this year? This is a disaster of a team, NOW is the time to send a clear message and to start having some accountability. You guys are funny actually, all the whining you do about country club culture and then the coach hands out a little discipline and everyone whines about that.

It's not about them...the rest of the team, will see that and think, he'll bench the studs, he'll probably cut me. It's the psychological part of running a business or team, in this case.
Thank you for defining accountability to the participation medal generation on here.

Let's see Poop Schotty pull that crap off against a very good team like the Eagles, Rams, Bills, Chiefs or Ravens and start off down 14 - 0. Guaranteed the Cowboys would lose their game, and you would probably be complaining.

Discipline. Discipline. Discipline.

Yeah, right. There are safer and smarter ways to discipline the players without stupidly sacrificing a team game or two.

A smart coach punishes his players during practice. NOT DURING A MUCH NEEDED WIN GAME.

Smart people understand that.

I was talking about both best WRs. Yes, Jimmy Johnson benched Michael Irvin for the 1st series in a game where he even left Irvin at the airport's tarmac simply because Michael showed up within 5 minutes of being late (which Irvin technically wasn't late) because Jimmy expected his players to show up AT LEAST 15 minutes early from whatever time Jimmy told them to show up. But Jimmy Johnson never benched both of his top 2 WRs at the same time to start any game. That would have been beyond stupid and possibly game-costing if it had happened against a very good opponent.

Poop Schotty just took it too far. Notice how even during the second series, he only had 1 WR out there, instead of both at the same time. It's like WTH are you doing Schottenheimer? Notice how it wasn't until the 3rd or 4th series when he finally allowed both CeeDee and Pickens to get on the field at the same time. That's when the TDs finally started happening. Pull that crap off against one of the better teams in the league, and you can bet the Cowboys will fall behind 2 scores and most likely lose the game. Then what would Schotty have proven? That he's an idiot.

The crazy part about this was that it was on the first drive of the game, where the goal for the cowboys are to score first, just in case the game turned more into a tussle. Imagine it is one of those games, and the Raiders get the ball after halftime while having a lead. God forbid the Raiders actually won that game, and the first drive punishment played a factor in it.

Shotty probably would have really been fired then.
