Schottenheimer on Lamb and Pickens not starting the game

I like Schotty. He does some good things, but he also makes a lot of mistakes, hence the team's record. I know Vrabel would have this team playing with a better record at this point right now.
No way to know that, 2 different scenarios entirely.
what about pete carol or arron glen ? people here wanted both of those guys, and they are doing awful now in their 1st year.
Payton struggled 1st year in denver, now he has it going pretty good.
!st years are always hard.

and compare who NE has played, to who cowboys have played and you should see the difference.

this is stupid. Like jimmy Johnson once said, if a special teams player fell asleep in a meeting, hed cut him the next day. If Emmitt Smith fell asleep in a team meeting , hed stand up and yell, NAP TIME EVERYONE! This was stupid ********. You arent sending any message to your all pro wrs.
Jimmy Johnson benched Michael Irvin for the first series in a 1992 game at Detroit for being late.

good, these guys have to be kept in check or they get too big a head to be any good for the team.

All this outrage is silly. This is not an uncommon occurrence in college or the pro’s.

People are missing the bigger message being sent by Schotty. The punishment is not about missing 1 or 2 series. The punishment is not being there for your teammates as a leader because of a selfish decision. Schotty didn’t punish the team…CeeDee and Pickens did.

I believe it was the right decision and if I were the coach, I would have done the same thing. If CeeDee and Pickens have an ounce of self awareness, they have to realize that leadership comes with responsibilities and they let their teammates down with their irresponsible choices.

Bench them for a game if it is really important. Benching them for a series is laughable.
Clearly the infraction wasn't important enough to put the team's two best offensive weapons on the bench for an entire game. They got punished for a minor infraction.

Trust me, if Schotty did nothing at all we would be on page five here calling him soft. Fans are never happy. Never.

Im fine with him "Punishing them." I just feel you could have done it behind the scenes and then NOBODY even knows anything happened. Why make it public and open up all of this talk in the first place?

To make Lamb and Pickens rethink what they did. Both will likely be asked about it this week.

Keeping it all quiet and internal would make them both apt to do whatever they did again. It's human nature to repeat what you get away with.

Both Irvin and Aikman were late for a team flight and both times Jimmy said "Shut the doors, we're leaving".

Jimmy would certainly have sat Irvin and Harper for a series.

Not stupid what Eberflus did.

Just shut up Jerry. Please quit undermining your coaches. The press couldn't get anything out of Schotty and it should have been left at that, but they all knew though if they passed the mic to Jethro, they could get a comment. Jerry can't help himself. "Don't worry fellas, boys will be boys, I got your back," wink, wink.

Why because the Cowboys are headed to the super bowl this year? This is a disaster of a team, NOW is the time to send a clear message and to start having some accountability. You guys are funny actually, all the whining you do about country club culture and then the coach hands out a little discipline and everyone whines about that.
Nobody's whining there's more efficient ways of administering discipline like at practice you can absolutely break their stones.

You can get your point across in practice by all kinds of torturous things you can force them to do.

And it doesn't create an issue for the media to dwell on like keeping them out of a game.

This type of move was not Jimmy Johnson approved! Jimmy would have cut someone or benched someone else just to prove a point but would have never messed with the BREAD WINNERS on the team.............LOL!

boy, he really struck fear in them, didnt he?
Not about striking fear. It’s about a message to the entire team. Really, it’s about sending a message to the young guys and lower tier players.

Jimmy benched Michael Irvin for missing the plane. That’s what Troy was referencing in the broadcast when he said Jimmy did similar things when he was in charge.

Michael Irvin was benched for the
first series of a game after missing the team flight to Detroit in 1992.
Irvin missed the team flight because he overslept. As punishment, coach Jimmy Johnson held him out of the starting lineup for the team's first offensive series and fined him $1,000. Johnson stated that while Irvin was one of his favorite players and they had a great relationship, the matter was considered over after the disciplinary action was taken.
