Schottenheimer on Lamb and Pickens not starting the game

He benched Irvin for sure. You’re off on this one AC. This is exactly the type of stuff Jimmy did.

After everything the team went through the last two weeks he needed the leaders to lead the rest of the team and hold them together.

They didn’t uphold their responsibility at a time when the rest of the team was honoring Marshawn. He held them accountable and as you can see, it paid off.
Jimmy also left Irvin behind when he was late to the plane or bus (don’t remember which).

It's not about them...the rest of the team, will see that and think, he'll bench the studs, he'll probably cut me. It's the psychological part of running a business or team, in this case.
well lets be honest; sitting them for the opening series is for show not substance

Let's see Poop Schotty pull that crap off against a very good team like the Eagles, Rams, Bills, Chiefs or Ravens and start off down 14 - 0. Guaranteed the Cowboys would lose their game, and you would probably be complaining.

Discipline. Discipline. Discipline.

Yeah, right. There are safer and smarter ways to discipline the players without stupidly sacrificing a team game or two.

A smart coach punishes his players during practice. NOT DURING A MUCH NEEDED WIN GAME.

Smart people understand that

Hey look man if beating the Raiders gives you hope good for you, we are afterall fans but to say smart coaches and smart people would do it a different way is just obviously wrong on your part. Thats the way YOU would do it. We arent in the playoff picture here not even close, this team isnt going to win out and go on a historic run, I think truly smart people understand that which makes the coaches decision perfectly acceptable and sends a message in public to all the players, not during some obscure private practice where they would love to sit out anyway.

I like the accountability, I like that two stars arent above the team and everyone is held to the same standard. This reminds me of Jimmy in 89 and 90.

Schotty is lucky it was against the Raiders.

Pull that crap stunt against the Eagles, Rams, Bills, Chiefs or Ravens, the Cowboys would be down 14 - 0 and the game would pretty much be over at that point.
did you ever think maybe the fact it was the raiders was the point?

How do you define “substance?”

Of course its “show”

It’s about accountability to themselves and their teammates, so yes, it’s a demonstration of responsibility

It gives me hope in the way that they beat the Raiders. The best game the team has played all season. The Raiders are an NFL team and the Cowboys were on the road and dominated them. You can give up, but not me. I agree with what Shotty did and he would’ve done it no matter the record if you’ve been paying attention.

.....or a Vegas strip club at 3 am the night before the game.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.. unless you play for the Dallas Cowboys. I fully expect a Señorita or two to kiss and tell very soon..

After thinking it through, I like Schottenheimer’s decision. A fine wouldn’t phase these guys, unless it was big enough to get the NFLPA’s attention. Missing a start (which is a stat), and standing on the sideline while cameras are rolling definitely hits hard. It’s probably the first time either of them has done that since pee-wee league. If what they did was (potentially) detrimental to the team, then punishment that also impacts the team illustrates the point. It also says to the team that nobody is above the rules. Ballsy? Yes. I didn’t think he had it in him…
I understand the argument that it could have impacted the outcome, and agree that could have happened. There was risk. But for the rest of his coaching life players will remember what he is willing to do, regardless of how much the team owner loves them..

Punishment is fine, but they're our biggest weapons! Find another way lol
There was a game vs Detroit in 92 where Irvin was late for the team flight, Jimmy left him behind. Michael took a commercial flight to make the game. Jimmy benched him for the first series and fined him $1000. Parcels did it to Roy Williams(S) too. It was the first time in his career where he missed a start. It's fairly common.

If you're a fringe player that can be sent down to JV, of a pro player that can be cut with no cap ramifications, they'll see it differently, than just for show.

It seems like people post about wanting more accountability and that someone is doing that there are complaints?

benching them for say half the quarter would have been substance

its fake
sitting them for one series at the very start of the game MEANS NOTHING

To make Lamb and Pickens rethink what they did. Both will likely be asked about it this week.

Keeping it all quiet and internal would make them both apt to do whatever they did again. It's human nature to repeat what you get away with.
ahhh, so you think that CeeDee Lamb, with all that guaranteed money gives a damn if outsiders know he broke a team rule? got it
