I am not sure if this would at all translate to real life.

But if you play with the exact cowboys roster set on Madden 2006 except sign FA RT Scott Gragg and plug him in as the starter.... THE OFFENSE GETS A TON BETTER.

I know madden is not always the most "accurate" thing but making this more really got me to thinking.

Also Issel Reese really plays pretty well on the game. But we'll have to see if he can even see the field in reality.

Pettiti has had a bum wheel lets see how he plays healthy before throwing 3 mil at Gragg.

I am not convinced you would have to throw $3 million at Gragg. He's sitting at home right now waiting for a call.

I am thinking more along the lines of $1-2 million would probably do it.

Gragg is waiting for a decent offer. $3 mill is out of the question. He isn't getting anything over the minimum until Week 2 of the season b/c vets get their deals guaranteed if they are on the opening day rosters -- otherwise they get their salaries as 1/16th of the deal each week.

I think if Petiti shows improvement each week, he'll start. We'll have to live with the learning curve (and hope Bledsoe lives through it).

Why not just have Parcells modify Pettiti? Make his strength 99, his run and pass block as well!

C'mon now, video games are fun, but football players are human beings. No computer can forcast how they will play...

If I am the Cowboys I sign Gragg today period.
Give him a minimum deal and a 1 mil bonus for being on the roster week 8.

There's your non-guaranteed contract.

Going into the season with Petitti, Vollers and Tucker at RT makes little sense. When a 2nd round pick gets injured thats when you go out in free agency and supplement your club.

How do we know that Gragg, at this point in his career, would be an upgrade? There's a reason he's a FA.

I'd rather at least wait to see how Petitti and Tucker do in the next two preseason games.

How do we know he isn't??
The point is you bring in a guy who started all last year and has been starting forever to be beaten out. If he is great, if he isn't you have the upgrade.

RT is not a position to play around with.

Madden 2006 = real life? I doubt it.

I think BP will look to pick up Gragg (or someone else) depending on how Petitti and Tucker play versus Seattle.

If Petitti looks like he could potentially start by mid-season, or if Tucker can get his head together, we'll probably go with what we have.

Otherwise, I think BP will have to bring in a RT next week.

One thing about Madden - it always severly over-rates veterans.

Just look at guys like Hugh Douglas, Chad Brown, Darren Sharper, etc. It doesn't matter how long ago they were good, in Madden if they ever were good then they'll always be good.

I really know very little about Gragg. Who was he with last season? And why do ya'll think he hasn't been signed yet?

Good Point tobias. It doesn't make sense how some of the vets are rated...

Also, as an avid Madden player, not to brag, Izell Reese blows on madden

Gragg was with the 49ers. He was supposedly cut in a salary cap related move although it could be performance and it could be a desire to get a younger guy on the field.

He played with the Giants before that and early in his career had a rep as a penalty machine.

He is durable. At one point, he started 112 consecutive games.

He is tall, 6'8", but relatively light weighing only somewhere between 305 and 315.

Scouting report from TSN:
Assets A tough, straight-line blocker. Good size and strength. Gets good position and mirrors especially well. Knows how to get away with a little holding. Hustles and makes blocks on the second level.

Flaws Very stiff and slow. Will struggle against pure speed.

Career potential Solid starter.

He was an All Pro in 2001.

All in all, I'd say he is a solid player. Nothing spectacular by any means or teams would be lining up to sign him. The Steelers have interest if Max Starks doesn't pan out. The Lions have had some interest.

Definitely not a long term option. I'd look at him as a guy to shore up that position early and give Pettiti a chance to adjust to the right side.

Gragg's agent should lose his license if he makes this deal. Let's see, give up the $$ guarantees in place of a deal that assures his client is released before getting the roster bonus. Silly.

**, he was with the Jints for five years, and SF for the same.

I don't know how well he did in SF, but I believe he had oen very good year. Both releases were said to be cap related, but in NY, at least, his penalties had driven his coaches mad.

I used to somewhat follow his career in NY because he was such a whipping boy of the fans, I felt bad for him. They called him "False Start Gragg" back then, but he finally overcame those issues.

PS..we had a thread on him earlier this week..I put my best recollections of him in post #28 of this thread

Parcells has been in contact with Jumbo.
Elliot is an LT, near 40, and has had a bad back since 99. A seriously bad back.

I hope if Bill's been in touch with Jumbo, it was only about that Junior AARP sponsorship.
