  • It would have been nice for North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz to have received more help from his wide receivers during his stint in the first quarter. There were several passes that were on target, but -- similar to what we had seen from the practices this week -- the North group was inconsistent at best. If there is an area to Wentz's game that needs to be further explored, it is his second read and how quickly he can get to it. Other than that I thought he had a solid week overall.

  • Eastern Kentucky defensive end Noah Spence had only one sack in the game, and surprisingly I thought he was going to have maybe one or two more. There were other plays where he was close with pressure but just not quite there to finish. What was interesting is that Jacksonville coach Gus Bradley and his coaches played him in a stand-up technique like an outside linebacker instead of his hand being on the ground. I have no problem with him up or down as long as he is rushing the passer.

  • There were times where Boise State safety Darian Thompson S played cautiously, but through this week and into the game -- he looked like a different player. I had my questions about how well he could play in coverage, but the Cowboys coaches put him in several situations where he had to carry a receiver out of the slot and he had little trouble. The only blip he had in coverage was when he dropped a potential interception in the red zone, but overall he was solid.

Fair point to which I would say, besides his receivers not helping, his O Line wasnt great either, much like Lynch. He would have more time to make more reads behind this line.

It was nice to see Louisiana Tech quarterback Jeff Driskel finish the game the way he did with the touchdown pass to Michigan State receiver Aaron Burbridge. I was watching him visit with Cowboys offensive coordinator ScottLinehan, and you could tell by Linehan's reaction that he enjoyed working with him this week. Driskel might be a name to keep an eye on in the middle of this draft if the Cowboys choose not to go with a quarterback early.

This the second time he has talked about Driskel, who most scouts werent particularly impressed with. Wonder if somebody inside mentioned something.

His intermediate to deep arm strength is quite impressive. His read progression is the problem......good kid that got stuck in a horrible situation, then compounded by poor decisions other than the transfer. A good QB coach could probably make him up to his potential

I actually think it's the typical Broaddus garbage point. To me, that's one of Wentz's greatest strengths.

Dak Prescott was pretty good in that 2 minute drill. Was lucky he wasn't picked off but overall had great command of the offense, was able to pass into tight windows and showed good awareness when he scrambled for yardage.

In the NFL that seperates Blake Bortles from Akil Smith.

He is actually starting to have some fans in the scout community. I thought his throws a little off, but like many it will come down to coaching.

Yea, I've been hearing a lot about his read progression and how he holds onto the ball too long. But I wonder if he can be in a system long enough that his reads may gradually imorove. Didnt he play for 4 or 5 different coordinators in school?

If you watch his full game cutups, you can see he will scan the field and go through progressions. He had a great play in the game where he looked off a linebacker with ease to throw the football.

Sometimes Broaddus' comments sound like a fan who really has not done a lot of observing of the prospects.
