Scout’s Eye: McCoy’s Ability To Make Plays Will Dictate This Game

Another key issue is whether or not the Commanders defense is better than the Giants. According to both the Aikman ratings and FootballOutsiders, it's a wash up until this week...but the loss of Orakpo will dilute them a bit more. In reality, Dallas should win this game by 10 points or more...McCoy ain't Eli Manning. It is possible that the Dallas defense finally gets home with its pass rush in this game...especially if Dallas shuts off the run early.

That's what I was going to be paying attention to the most, probably. Haslett loves to blitz us, and it's been effective because our OL has, for the most part, been terrible.

I expect him to throw in some creative blitzes, and I bet we're working on our protection schemes a lot this week. It is a double edged sword though, especially with our run game now.

I just don't think they have enough talent on defense right now to make the blitzes effective. I fully expect him to come out the gate blitzing, and for us to take advantage of it. Our OL just makes our opponents gameplanning miserable, it's great.

I also expect a lot of motion, and screen check downs to determine the coverage and where the blitz is coming from. Dunbar could have a big (relatively) game this week.

I love your optimism but they stunt and middle blitz a lot. It has given trouble before. If they burn them a few then they will back off. Then we just have to protect the ball.

I think the middle is a position of strength right now for us for the first time in ages, so it's really going to disrupt Haslett's plans.

I think pass protection is still an area that needs improvement and this kind of disruption is a little bit of a problem for them still. But I think they will do well eniugh to force them to stop if they do attack that way.

I just read that we are on pace to have the fewest sacks in the history of the franchise (16)...........................I knew it was bad, but not this bad................wow

That's because they don't know what they have in him yet. Colt is a good QB when given time to operate.

Even so, he's a career 58.9% completion rating, and a career QB rating of 76,1%, Only chance Commanders have is the deep ball to DJackson and others and success running the ball.

I'm concerned about the Commanders' blitz. I would bet a small amount that they will come out blitzing and won't stop until forced to. That's really the only way to stay in this game. They have a worse defense and won't be able to stay in a scoring game unless they get stops and maybe turnovers. They have an offense but no running game to go with the pass esp with a new QB. They have to gamble to win or just get unforced turnovers and field position to win a close one.

Yup, at this stage in their season, they have nothing to loose by taking chances on D (blitz) and on being aggressive on offense.........

McCoy doesn't push the ball down the field. He averages 10.8 yards per completion for his career. In last weeks game he had the 70 yarder to Garcon. The pass didn't cover much distance in the air. Garcon did a good job and the Titans did a bad job in turning a simple pass play into a big play TD. The rest of the game McCoy averaged under 6 yards per completion.

Getting any QB in 3rd and long situations is a good thing. That forces the QB to make the big plays, which is difficult for any QB to do consistently. It is especially challenging for McCoy to do so.

Considering the O-line that was protecting him, that passer rating is pretty good. The Skins offence uses a good deal of short pass methodical time consuming plays with the constant threat of the deep ball always a possibility. I don't see this as an easy win.

To me this is the trap game .......

I hope the team is not taking the Skins as lightly as the fans.

NFC East Rival game ....... throw records and how the teams have been playing out the window.

I saw bad Commanders teams come in and wipe the floor with the 90's triplets Cowboys.

The voice of reason. Tony' s always had trouble with Haslett' s blitz. He's talking about how remembering the injury makes him cringe. It may take him a minute to get the" oozy" out.

I don't think the Stinks will be dictating much of anything. If we somehow lose this game, it will be because we turned the ball over repeatedly and made stupid mistakes.

I see that a few of us think this will be an easy win. I don't think so... McCoy isn't a terrible QB if he is given time to go through his progressions. Our pass rush needs to step up because D-Jack and Pierre Garcon are a dangerous pair of receivers.

i don't think it will be as easy as some think. we have to score and score often. break their will to compete. they have quailty wr's and a good rb. we must stop the run and force colt to beat you with his arm. get them down and keep them down. if they can stay in the game they will gain confidence

Sacks come in bunches and if you look at sacks on a game by game basis you will see wild swings from 0 to 5 or more not uncommon at all. However, we are averaging one a game and that does suck. We need to pick it up.

Word. For instance the Eagles have 19 sacks on the year, but I think 8 of them came against Jacksonville.

Jacksonville, for that matter, are 3rd in the NFL with 22 sacks. It's not doing them much good in the W's column, though.

I would like to see us get more (obviously) but it's not the end-all.

To add, holy crap, guess who is just above us on the list with 7 sacks to our 6?

Seattle Seahawks. That's crazy.

QBs must feel pressure, OCs must game plan for pressure, QBs get rid of the ball in varying ways due to pressure, and defenses send pressure and play packages/schemes based on the premise of getting pressure. Pressure is an axiom. Teams live and die by it. Sacks and stuffs are great. We love them and they are important but pressures include them and it is the key to playing pass defense in this league. And I'm not getting into defensive pass coverage by itself or versus pressure. Pressure allows for better pass coverage and it allows for better rush.
