If the season started this weekend, Damontre Moore would likely be your starter at right end. There were questions about his work ethic and attitude but he has come in and worked extremely hard to earn a spot on this roster. The majority of Moore’s work has come against Tyron Smith, which is never easy, but he’s been more than up to the challenge. He’s even accepted a role on the special teams and lined up as a standup linebacker/pass rusher.

Something to think about in regards to Jaylon Smith. If you worry about his lack of change of direction, which tends to show up in pass coverage as the “Mike” linebacker, you could sub him off the field in nickel situations. Initially he might have to be just a two-down player until he adapts to playing with the brace and more healing. This could be their plan to get him on the field as soon as possible.

I'll be here honest here.. And maybe I'm a fool, but I've got high hopes for Moore. There's no doubt he has the skill set to be a premier pass rusher. I believe, he realizes this is his best chance to shine and I'm riding that train that he will prove it. Mainly because I trust Marenilli will put him in the best position to succeed.

Best Defensive Veteran

This was a tough call. I was impressed with three guys: Anthony Hitchens, Jeff Heath and Anthony Brown.

------------------------------------------

Let that sink in a while. The Cowboy defense WILL be better this year. More than most suspect. Especially when we get into the later parts of the schedule and the rooks figure this pro game out.

"I know this team has invested a lot of resources in Rico Gathers, but I would be careful to say that he’s a lock for the roster."

Welp the jump from middle school to playing on Sunday not an easy one.

A draft pick instead of UDFA and he was paid like a game day starter (around same as Anthony Brown) despite being on Practice Roster all year so no one would snap him up.

still would not call that a LOT of resources. That is reserved for giving up draft picks and lots of cap money.

Thanks RS12 for sharing;

Broaddus summation of the OTAs is the best I've read.
I hate to hear about Rico but that was a big leap no doubt.
We need some good news at the DE spot and it appears Moore wants to play. That could be a big deal.
I might have thrown a little dirt on Butler.Prematurely

Peanuts, my man. Yea, Gathers made $465k while playing on the practice squad all year. But that was to ensure another team wouldn't sway his talents elsewhere. He was the 217th pick in last years draft..basically a gamble to see if we could snag the next Antonio Gates like player. So, no. That's very little resources comparatively..

In contrast.. Dallas threw away $750k signing bonus last year to a player that never even showed up for practice.. Rolando McClain.
