"I'd hate to be a team in need of a quarterback. The best two in this draft might end up being from Memphis and North Dakota State and that ought to scare the (expletive) out of you. It takes some courage to turn that card in." -- NFC scout

Uh oh.

The skinny: Any time a general manager takes a quarterback early in the first round, he's putting his job on the line, no matter where the player comes from.

Not our GM! Let's do this!

This stories are crap.

Focusing on the big names early on in first round or two?

What about the later round guys?

Good thing we are not in dire need. It was would great if there was a Luck type when we draft in the 1st, especially since it looks like we will have a high pick. But don't pick a QB just to pick one. Might be a good chance to move that pick for future picks. It would be nice to get the future and have them sit for 3 years while Romo plays but it might not work out that way, maybe we get one next year and he sits for 2.

If that's the feeling, then we can get a blue-chip player at another position in the first and draft a quarterback to groom in the second.
Lynch and Goff may be good but not enough to pick in the first then have them sit for two to three years making the money they will be. In the second or a trade up from the second into the bottom half of the first, yes.
But we need a first-round player who is going to immediately contribute. We have too many holes to be drafting a guy not named Luck, Elway or Aikman to sit the bench and learn for two years.

Seriously? Have you watched this season?

We are in dire need.

No we are not. If we were in dire need, we would be looking for a day 1 starter. That's not what we have here. We have someone who will sit for a couple of years and provide back up duties while he learns. Like I said, it would be great if we had the opportunity to draft a Luck type QB this year, but if that is not available, then trade the pick or get a stud at a different position. The worst thing we could do is pick a QB just to be taking one.

I think they are not on the level of Mariotta or Winston but they are not bad either.you wont be getting polished NFL ready QBs anymore.the college offense is too simplified and any QB needs major time to work on his game.thankfully a QB drafted by us doesnt have to start right away.

i have watched every game. We are in dire need of a good back up QB but not a starting QB. Like it or not, Tony will start for the next 2 years at least. That is not a "dire" situation. Now, who we back him up with is a dire situation.

Given Romo's recent injury history, coupled with his twice-repaired back that requires reduced practice time, his age, and this lost season greatly impacted by a failure to have a capable alternative, that adds up to dire.

And Romo might be on this roster "for the next two years" with the intention of him being the starter, but needing is one thing, but getting, getting's another.

I read that too and while there is some truth to it, I don't buy it completely.

You could pretty much say the same thing about any draft in regards to the QB position.

In the last decade there has been what, a couple of "sure things"? And even one of those like Luck has really struggled this year.

And honestly, that is a position nobody knows the secret formula to figuring out. There were quotes several years ago where "anonymous scouts" said that Newton was going to be a bust and there is "no way" he could be like a Sam Bradford or Josh Freeman. Oops.

It is why you take one. Every year.

It is like throwing excrement at a wall. If you don't throw it, it has no chance to stick.

There is a problem coming from the college ranks, nobody is developing QBs. Then they get to the pros and get stuck with someone like Wade Wilson.

It is not a great environment and I don't think there is any position on the field where teams do not understand how important development is.

I want ZEKE. Most important player to our entire team last season was the running back.. This team fed off of our running game and this guy could get it going again. He also has elite vision!

This is a year to draft a QB outside of the first. It would be absolutely shameful to turn down blue chip talent to "reach" for a backup QB.

Our backup position will be addressed. I am hoping for a QB in rounds 2-3. If we have a high first, I think a we have other needs. Look at the 2011 draft for comparison.

Now I doubt we have a number one pick but if a Cam Newton type of talent is there, you take him. If I am sitting there at pick 5 and we pass on Tyron Smith, Julio Jones, JJ Watt or Patrick Peterson talent for a Christian Ponder, Blaine Gabbert or Jake Locker...I will throw my tv threw the wall.
