Scouting Eagles game my observations

My game observation from the Eagles versus the Ravens. On defense, the only way they can get pressure on the quatrback is by blitzing and even so the Ravens still manage to get yards. Brian Dawkins is their best defender by far. He is the only one making plays, outside of him the defense is getting lite up like thunder during a rainstrom. Their running game seems to be the best asset, the OL seems to be opening up some running lanes for the runningbacks. Their passing games seems lackluster,I guess because the wides can't get separation. The longest passing gain was from a bad pass interence call. If their defense continue to play like that our offense will have a field day with all of the weapons we have. Only if our OL holds up against Philly's blitz package. If you watch the game I would like to hear some of your thoughts and opinions. :splat::splat:

I don't know that holding the Ravens 1st team offense to 3 first half points is getting lit up. The Ravens did make some stupid mistakes though.

The Eagles offense wasn't very impressive at all, the pretty much relied on pass interferience penalties to advance. They still don't have a great running game.

Don't reallt think it had anything to do with their defense more than bone head plays. Dawkins was the only one making plays.Ravens left alot of points on the field

3 points but its looked like the Ravens did what ever they wanted except a few times BDawk was making good on that whopping 2 year extention the Iggs insulted him with!!!

the Iggs OL v. the Boys DL might cause problems and McDs playmaking ability seem to come alive v. the Boys!

should be fun....

Sounds like you pretty much have the same observations as I do.

The only thing that kept the Eagles in the game was the zebras and the Ravens' stupidity.

The Eagles' 2 scores were both set-up by the officials and outside of a nice screen pass to Brokenhalter, their offense did little to nothing all night.

McNabb did show some scrambling ability but even then his receivers still couldn't get open.

And that supposedly improved defense got pushed around all night long.

And as for the "depth" the Eagles are supposed to have, I sure didn't see any!

They had better hope that Runyan stays healthy!

If this is what the Cowboys have to look forward to, I'd get your brooms ready for yet another sweep!

My observations:
- It was an ugly game. Very, very ugly. I think alot of Ravens games will be that way this year, cause their defense is gonna be very good.
- The Eagles starting O is going to run the ball well. When Reno Mahe is popping off 7 yards behind giant holes, imagine what Westbrook Buck or Moats can do.
- Speaking of Moats, unless he fixes his fumbling problem, he won't be given a chance to do jack.
- Speaking of Buck, even healthy I don't think he makes the roster, unless others are injured. I love his ability, but he can't stay healthy.
- I hope we trade for Lelie.
- Otherwise, I think LJ Smith will lead the team in receptions, and we only be successfull by running atleast 55% of the time
- Ravens seemed to be doing alot of exotic stuff for a preseason game.
- I think the Ravens will be very, very good. They handled the Giants as well.

What????

If he's healthy he won't make the team because he can't stay healthy?

this is interesting to me b/c i didn't see the game until mop up time in the 4th quarter, but reading the newspaper this morning, you would have thought the ea-girls 1st team offense is the second coming of the 80's 49ers.

i guess the truth is somewhere in the middle.

DOn't you guys know that the Eagles are a Superbowl team?

They are simply lulling their opponents to sleep with subpar preseason performances. You'll see the real Eagles after the preseason concludes.

I would agree that it was ugly - and it could have been even worse. The Eagles' only points came from Ravens' penalties.

Didn't look like it to me. They had 62 yards rushing all night! They really need Westbrook back - and healthy. Mahe and Brokenhalter combined for 7 rushed for 22 yards. I did think they pass-protected McNabb fairly well.

TobiasEagle77 said:

I think he's safe. It's not like they have a lot of other options.

I think he sticks as well. He brings power that others don't. If he doesn't get hurt, I think he stays.

After last night, the team may be seriously considering it - and they should.

You'd be in serious trouble then - 22 guys playing within 20 yards of the field.

I saw the Eagles bring some stuff as well. Quite a bit of blitzing for preseason on both sides.

I think your Eagles have good reason to be concerned.

I didn't see much on offense or defense that impressed me. And I was shocked that the "depth" I thought they had wasn't there.

Buckhalter came in and ran 5 times behind the first string offensive line, and none of his carries went for more than 2 yards. I don't know that Mahe's 2 carries are going to give you the best indication of how your team will do over the entire season.

Nor would Buckhalter's first 5 carries since August 2004, yeah?

I stand with you on this one AJM! I'm not sure what that was all about AJM. perhaps they weren't all watching the same game. Here's how I saw it ...

McNabb:

Was 6-10 for 97 yards; 1 Touchdown; and zero interceptions

Buckhalter (HEALTHY):

One reception for 48 yards ...not bad for his debut; and it had nothing to do with penalties! Beasthalter is Back!

LJ Smith:

Two receptions for 32 yards

Mahe:

One TD; one fumble (did someone say something about not making the team)

Akers:

Made a 43 yard field goal, right down the middle (one of the best in the NFL)

Kearse:

One sack, one forced fumble

Dawkins:

Recovered a fumble/Dawkins is a beast. Had a couple of passes defended in addition to his fumble recovery.

Rayburn:

One sack

Eagle Linebackers

Concerns about McCoy, and Jones ...Trotter will be there

Eagle Secondary:

Sheldon Brown and Lito Sheppard needed to step it up just a Notch

Overall, many Eagle fans that I've spoken to believe that our 1st team beat the Ravens 1st team and would have controlled the game if they played throughout.

The weed must be really good where you live because you are smoking some serious stuff. The wides couldn't get separation eventhough Mcnabb had a lil time in the pocket. The defense couldn't even get pressure from blitzing. The only shing spot was the running game and B Dawkins. In addition to a bogus pass interference call.

More like Schmuckhalter-- talk about someone who can't stay healthy. Check his run stats and re-evaluate his "beast" status. Schmuckhalter is average at best, but that OL can make him look good if Reid lets them get enough reps.
