Name: Chaz Green
Position: OT
Height: 6-5
Weight: 300
College: Florida
Drafted: 91st overall by Dallas, 2015

Report: Missed all of training camp and the majority of the season.

Has been practicing with the team now for two weeks in order to determine if he will be added to the 53-man roster for the final five games. Has been gettingwork on the scout team during practice, playing left and right tackle. Has also seen some work at guard.

While at Florida I thought there were snaps where he struggled to sustain blocks and didn’t finish like he should have. The scheme with Gators required him to catch more blocks than push. He will need to develop that ability to come off the ball and put himself in better blocking position. I like the way he extends his hands. He can control rushers with his length, and he will play with leverage.

I would like to see him play with more power than finesse. There were snaps where he tried to muscle his man off the ball.

Is there any reason not to give him reps at this point in the season? If you are trying to determine if he is good enough to put on the roster at this point, then shouldn't using a 3rd rounder on him be considered a mistake.

The guy missed all of camp and all but the last three weeks of the season. No, there's no reason to be giving him reps automatically.

If he's good enough to earn them under those circumstances, that's great. I'd love to see it. By the sound of it, he's a guy that redshirted this year and added a little strength. Next offseason is when he'll be expected to make a move if he's going to earn any reps.

Whatever we have Charles Brown doing, he should be able to do.

I remember Broadus liking the pick back in May and saying he projects well to a NFLright tackle. Hopefully he adds strength in the off season and replaces #68.

That's where I'd put him. Free's days are numbered. Green needs to prove he can handle the job before next year's draft

I agree from developmental standpoint letting Green get as many snaps as possible would be ideal. I am not sure ideal is word Garrett and others are looking at though.

Thank you, I forgot how hard it is to read CZ during a lost season

Why not? I'd say that regarding a 6th or 7th rounder but a guy drafted in the 3rd has got to play if (1) he's ready to play, (2) there's room for improvement at his position, and (3) the season is over for everything but evaluation purposes.

Any rookie who misses all of camp and most of the season is a project for the following year.

Historically, the team doesn't view 3rd rounders as immediate starters, either. They view them as developmental players who ought to have a chance to start for the team at some point. Green was a candidate for the swing OT position this year before the injury set back. At this point, he's a guy they're making room for in a pinch. Maybe he gets some snaps in garbage time or in the last week or two after we're mathematically eliminated, but he's not going to start over Free while the games still count.

Correct, he is not going to start over Doug Free for the remaining 5 games this year. Hell, I don't care if he is inactive for all 5 games ! What this does is allow him to practice with the team every day, it will at the least give the coaches an idea of what they have in a 3rd round prospective RT. If he does get some game action - all the better. We cannot go into next off-season not knowing what they do or don't have at the position.

Free didn't get beat on the play that sent Tony to the sideline.

From the article, Green is better at pass protection than run blocking if I read football terminology right.

The book on him is that he was light in the loafers. He got hurt early. Again. If he gets hurt again the calls for bad pick are going to come and I think I may join them.

Gasp!

That sounds kind of negative.

Soooo, any news yet ? I looked on the Cowboys website and nothing that I could see. We still have an open roster spot right ? Just makes too much sense not to put him on the roster ...
