RVING, Texas – Having had a chance to digest the tape of the Senior Bowl, here are some of my biggest impressions from the tape. In the practice sessions leading up to this game, I was impressed with the way Quinten Rollins of Miami-Ohio carried himself and was expecting him to have a big game. But if you asked me of all the North cornerbacks, which one played the best in the game, it was Steven Nelson of Oregon State.
Physically, Nelson doesn’t appear to have the same size as Rollins but what he does have is acceleration with an extended burst and body control. His key and diagnose were outstanding, whether he was lined up tight or off. There just wasn’t much room for the receiver to work. He showed catchup speed and positioning on the deep routes, and when the ball was thrown in front of him, you would see him plant and explode forward.

I thought his best trait was his ability to deny the ball. His tackling in the open field was good and he appeared to play the entire game with a chip on his shoulder. It was as if he was challenging these receivers to beat him and they were struggling to do just that.

Kikaha really struggled when asked to play LB. He is a one dimensional pass rusher type.
Don't think he is a fit for Dallas but for a 3-4 team willing to live with his run playing deficiency he could provide a pass rush.

Rollins did look good in drills but he didn't look very good in the game. Scouts will need to watch his game tape.

I am a fan of Nelson. OrSt has done a good job with DBs and Nelson appears very well coached. He's the mid round Cb I'd target but the game may have moved him closer to end of round 2 and that's too rich for me.

You mean besides the interception?

on that play the QB threw a fly pattern when Rollins was giving up a 12 yard cushion. the pass was inside away from the sideline and just terrible QB play.
the Wr ate up that cushion and had a step plus the outside, and Rollins was turned around mid-route which is how he lost the edge. he did make a very nice diving pick and he does play the ball well.

as a sleeper kid with potential i like him. as talked up as he was all week tho he didn't meet that in the game.

he's 6 foot with long arms and that's a nice build to work with but he's very slight at just under 180 pounds.

he looks like a zone corner and a solid fit in our system but not as a high round guy.

In drills he didn't show enough speed to stay with the wrs when they ran a fly, either. The announcers were definitely talking him up but I didn't necessarily see it.
