  • Andy Jones has been the best of the undrafted receivers to make his mark in this first week of practice. Jones has shown up so well that the coaches are using him in sets with the first offense. Jones made two outstanding plays in 1-on-1 of just going to get the ball. He is a physical player off the line, as well. On one snap, he just shoved Deji Olatoye aside and ran his slant inside to finish the play. I had a member of the front office tell me that Tony Romohas so much confidence in his ability that he is not afraid to throw him the ball in any situation. Clearly high praise for the young receiver.

With Street injuried healthy I could see Andy taking his spot......similar to Jackson taking McFadden or Dunbar spot

Fixed. I think Jones can take Street's spot whether he's healthy or not. I think his biggest hurdle to making the team will come from the rest of the roster, as in the team wanting to keep four running backs or four tight ends, or the fullback position. I think ideally, they'd keep only 5 receivers, but Jones may force the issue.

My picks for UDFA's to make the team were Jones and Coe. But I am happy to read about Woods doing well. Maybe with the suspension situation he makes the final 53.

Andy Jones has been producing and very competitive in the off season. He has a great shot at making the final roster. Let's see if he gets separation during the upcoming Exhibition Games.

This just doesn't happen that easy or that often for a Rookie.......a very good sign

.......another FCS level player that just cant compete :)

If rb DJ can return kicks, maybe even punts(?), does the emergence of Andy Jones along with less special teams duties for Lucky put his spot in danger, or is it more on Street? If Cowboys want to go long at DLine and other spots, they will be looking at crossover duty players

I think my grandma could beat Street out with a coaching staff doing fair evaluations. Hoping Jones beats out not only Street but also Twill, who I believe will be a FA next year.

I'm not hearing great things about Coe to this point. In fact, I read a comment about him that sounded like something directly from the coaches, about him needing to pick up his effort level and consistency. I hope he does because given the injuries and guys missing time, he has a golden opportunity in front of him.

Effort and consistency were the two big hangups about him, even by his own admission. That is not very good.

With all the injuries to the defensive tackles on this squad, it has been undrafted Zach Wood that has been taking the snaps with the first defense in these practices. During the 1-on-1 portion of practice, it was the slippery Wood that was able to get a couple of nice rushes against La’el Collins. Wood was able to take advantage of Collins over setting on him and spin back to the inside for a pressure. On the next rush, it was Wood with straight quickness off the line, which caused Collins to lunge off balance and resulted in him reaching for air. Collins received a third shot at Wood and this time he was ready. Wood made the mistake of trying to take Collins down the middle and his hand placement and power were just too much for him to overcome. It is not surprising that Zach Wood has been running ahead of Rodney Coe, who hasn’t been nearly as consistent with his effort and finish as the coaches would like.

Rod Marinelli has filled the hole left in his heart from the loss of Nick Hayden with Zach Wood.

Coach said the rookie DL brings it every snap, knows what to do, and he's tough as nails. Wood was told upon signing he needed to drop weight (he came in as a deep snapper), which he immediately did, and now he finds himself suddenly playing NT, so he's too skinny.

What happened to Street? I haven't seen yet.
I was going to post that Stephen Jones had mentioned Andy Jones prior to the OTA's as a FA that they are intrigued with.
So if they were to keep 6 WR's, Jones would be the one to push Street, as we assume Butler would be one of the 5. Unless Whitehead doesn't make it for some reason, if they find other returners.

You have Byant, Williams, Beasley and then probably Butler. Lucky, Street and Jones are likely fighting for one spot, maybe two. If Clai borne can be a return option then we might only keep 5 wr. Have not heard Lucky's name at all as a receiver so far.

J.J. Wilcox, who did not react well to what was happening.

once again
When I seen that I said to myself why was he on the field. I hope our scouts don't pick no more safeties from these low level no name colleges anymore No more safeties from Crawfish ST. Only power conferences please

Good for Andy Jones -- it's much to his credit that he has established a rapport with Romo as reported.

It's been proven many times with various WRs that Romo will reward those who complement him well.

Does Romo reward those who complement or compliments him well? Or is it really both? Nothing wrong with suckn up to the starting qb
