Garrett Grayson, Colorado State
Measurables: 6-2, 213, 4.60
Stats: Threw for over 7,600 yards the past two years.
Scouts Say: "No, I don't want him. Some team might, but it won't be us.'' ..."We weren't impressed. There's too much that needs to be done.'' ..."Good arm, pretty accurate, too. He just needs to work on mechanics and things like that. He'll be OK.'' ..."If he went to Alabama or Oregon, you would have heard a lot more about him. I think he's going to be pretty good.''

Brett Hundley, UCLA
Measurables: 6-3, 226, 4.63
Stats: Career 75 TDs, 25 interceptions
Scouts Say: "I don't want to kill him, but he's just not that good.'' ..."There are tools there, but he needs time, a lot of time. He's not ready to play.'' ..."There are just too many flaws in his game.'' ..."We're not high on him at all.''

Bryce Petty, Baylor
Measurables: 6-3, 230, 4.87
Stats: 62 TDs and 10 interceptions the past two years.
Scouts Say: "He's not the guy you looking for, at least we aren't.'' ..."It looks like he just locks in one receiver every play. I'm not sure how good he is reading a defense.'' ..."He gets rid of the ball quickly, which is good. But there's not much else I like.'' ..."He had some really good players around him, which made him look a little better than he is.''

Didn't even need the explanation. I could see it with my own two eyes. ;)

Remember what they said about a qb that has won 4 Super Bowls. The report on him was slow, not a good thrower, doesn't throw a tight spiral, arm strength is below average, not very elusive, only be at best average. What they couldn't measure was this guy heart. The qb that I sm talking about is none other than Tom Brady.

The Brady reference is laughable...one example out of how many like this? sure, you find a brady-esqe guy, go for it...the chances of finding that guy are slim to none...yes, Dallas has to think about the future of the QB position, I just don't think there is anyone in this draft worth worrying about, unless you take a flyer on a 7th round guy...not interested in any of the QB's this year

In that critique, they never said anything about a failure to read defenses.

Petty, Hundley, and even Mariota have hardly shown any ability to do that.

Marcus Mariota, Oregon
Measurables: 6-4, 222, 4.52
Stats: 42 TDs and four interceptions last season.
Scouts Say: "In a word, great. He's the best I've seen since (Andrew) Luck. He's everything you want.'' ..."He has it all. If we had the first pick, he'd be ours. But we don't.'' ..."The only knock we have on him, is he's a thrower, not a passer. But he'll work on that. He'll be real good.'' ..."What I like best about him is he's a hard worker. He'll put in the time. That's more important than people realize.''

Higher praise for Mariota than I would have expected.

True. I am not saying any of those qbs are going to be the next Brady just saying that opinions vary. For me, I would only draft Mariotta and Grayson but later in the draft.. I think the others might not make it in the league.

Mariotta doesn't surprise me.
He's basically a Russell Wilson type character and effort guy with Manziel like athleticism. He's done nothing but win a ton.

Winston is basically Big Ben or Jay Cutler. He's huge, insanely cocky and solid but not gifted as a runner.

I really like these anonymous scout quotes because guys are at least honest on their takes. Media draft nerds NOW often pull punches for fear of looking goofy later.

I think I'd rather risk my franchise with Mariotta and his work ethic over Jameis and his can of arrogance.
BUT, I wouldn't draft either top 10.
Mariotta reminds me a bit of a modern, updated Joey Harrington.
I think he'll be fine with some pieces around him but you can't ask him to carry a team.
And I would want to get him to a laid back city/area.
I could see him excel in Tennessee, Arizona or somewhere like that.

Even with all the research, it's a guess.

Last year, many thought Manziel was going to take the NFL by storm - Romo was undrafted.

Manziel has problems with maturity. I think the physical talent is not his problem. The mental side of a player and the heart are the hardest things for a scout to evaluate in my opinion.

Many had a similar downgrade on Romo.

They really haven't had to. It's the system they were in. That's why they need grooming. I don't know whether they'll turn out to be good quarterbacks or not. But I wouldn't automatically give up on them.

I wouldn't consider Jameis arrogant. He's just confident in his ability. You need that in a starting quarterback.

i'd say that puts you in the extreme minority.

No, it doesn't. A lot of people talk about his fire, his leadership and how those who play with him look up to him as the leader of the team.
