Scrap College Football and create a minor league system? I'm down.

Now I love college football as much as the next guy, but I truly think it's time to drop the act that college athletic programs have been forced into since time began and open up shop on a minor league system somewhat like baseball has. The guys who are interested in being NFL players aren't going to get anything out of college anyway (remember the Oklahoma State player who GRADUATED without knowing how to read?), so why not pay them legally from 18-22 and let the NFL actually profit from it? I think it would be a great thing watching the 'minor league' football teams play and be able to see future Cowboys develop from the age of 18 until they're ready to be NFL players.

The only true downside to this I can forsee is the bucking of tradition, which I could get over if each team had it's own minor league team(s) to develop talent... I really think it'd be the best thing at this point.

What do y'all think?

I dont like that idea simply for all those college players who wont make it to the NFL, and will miss out on the comradery(spelling?) and good time that playing for a national championship. This isn't the NBA its not like players are only playing one season of college football, most are playing at LEAST three years, while a lot play all four years. Dont take that opportunity away from blue collar, hard working players who want to enjoy the experience of college football.

But if they don't want to play in the future, we're doing a disservice to future NFL players by matching them up against guys who aren't the best of the best and who don't have any kind of future to play for. If you get an entire league of guys who want to play in the NFL and pit them against each other, the competition is going to be that much more intense, which equals better NFL players in the future.

Heck, keep a smaller level of college football for guys who want to play and go to school, but it's not worth it to keep these huge programs that just pay players under the table when they could be paid legally and in a forum that can do something with that money, other than turn it around and use it in more illegal ways.

The real powers do a lot of things that they shouldn't-but that is the only way to win there, mostly. It is hypocritical of the NCAA to make so much money of AMATEUR athletics then act holier then thou when the rules breakers are caught. But then, that is the way of the world. 90% of the players even in the major programs never even get invited to a TC, let alone ever make it in the pros. THEY are who the game is for, not the 10% that make money out of it. College football is so much fun in so many ways, leave it as it is- except maybe shoot a couple of NCAA officials.
