Once again, it may "not be that bad", if their idea is to shed cap in chunks, they would not take tradeoffs to do it in smaller increments.

They only have $13.4M in cap space. Even a million here or there matters.

But they likely want to shed cap while remaining competitive. Getting a vet DB with a team friendly contract could fit their plans.

Thomas clearly wants to be here. When was the last time you heard of a player chasing down the opposite team's head coach and saying "Come get me!"

Would make all too much sense.

Top qb..................27 million
Top rt.....................12 million
Top cb....................12 million
Top de....................17 million
Top wr.....................17 million

That's around 85 million or 45 per cent of the cap . (just rough figures)..all the rest have to be signed with remaining money. Superstars....can't win with them, can't win without them unless you have someone like Belichick for your coach.

I bet this falls on deaf ears and people still keep thinking that just because he chased Garrett down in the locker room that it is still going to happen.
The effects of too many reality shows.

One half the team(26 players) make 10% of the cap....... the money and space is there

This is where a guy like Scandrick can come in handy if SEA is serious about moving on from Sherman, too. They're going to be drafting DBs here as they churn things, and getting a capable vet who can play inside and out while they get everybody up to speed could be worth something. So say, Scandrick, a 3rd and a 5th for Thomas. Something like that.

That's too much for Thomas. Scandrick and a 4th/5th.

Not necessarily. If he's being truthful about "coming home", it should give the Cowboys an advantage in the negotiations over other teams. Whoever is looking to trade for him isn't going to give up a 3rd round pick for a $9 million one-year rental, in my opinion.

Correct. That's not likely to happen.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Earl Thomas is "firmly in" the Seahawks' 2018 plans, and they have no plans to trade him.

RapSheet reported the same last month, saying the Seahawks would prefer to extend Thomas, who is entering a contract year, rather than trade him. But Yahoo's Charles Robinson reopened the trade talk Monday, saying the Seahawks had "open ears" regarding Thomas at the Combine. That's probably true, but Seattle would have to be blown away to trade the ballhawking safety.

So one guy isn't reporting they'd have "open ears" and another that he's "firmly" in their plans. Somebody looks to be wrong.

Going to just go ahead and point out Rapoport is wrong about as much as any reporter out there, so I’ll wait to see it confirmed by someone else before taking what he says as fact.

We'll see how that works out. That leaves 22 more. By your numbers, each making up 2% of the cap per player. That's around 3.6 million each. Some more some less. Not much wiggle room.

If they wanted to, they could pick up the 5th year option. Depends if they like the look of him. A team looking for long corners might think they could make a lot more out of him, given his measurables and man cover skills on TEs, which are good.

If we hadn't seemingly hit on our rookie CBs, we'd be thinking about that 5th year option.
That has to be done in May.
