Sean Lee may never be the player we want him to be

maybe with DL who actually fills their gaps he wouldn't have to take on so many 320+ lb guys getting to second level. That might cut down on his injuries. Plus I don't think he can physically handle the MLB. I would play Lee at the SAM. Its toss up for WILL spot between Durant and Carter.

Carter is shining at the SAM. Lee would play the WILL.

...and folks wanted to fire Scandrick a few short years ago. Absolute statements like 'never' simply don't apply.

I hope Sean Lee comes back and plays at an high level. He is one of the best in the game and would still be the best player on this Defense if he is the same guy he was before the injury.

as BP said you cannot make the team from the injury list. Lee is just fragile; too much injury history. Bob Sanders is a very apt comparison.

I love the alignment of Carter SSLB, McClain MLB, and Lee at the WILL next year. I haven't given up on Lee. Him and Mcclain on the same field will work.

lee is signed cheaper than carter will be. lee is a great player when healthy. lee will be back next year playinng outside with RO inside. carter is the guy i think will walk because i think he will get some nice offers and we can't have 3 lb's making second contract money unless it's below market value. with hitch and i think we can resign durant along with wilbur we will be set at lb and use the money we save by not signing carter to either keep melton or sign someone else. don't see that much money being spent on just lb's

I think you drastically underestimate McClain's cerebral ability.

i agree. he is a smart football player. he just plays so physical people overlook the fact he makes some of those plays because of being in the right spot, not just physical ability. the guy was a monster in college and if he can keep his head straight he is a pro bowl caliber player who we really need to keep. to me he is the second most important signing this off season after dez, then leary

People were getting a little too positive, better bring up something that has been irrelevant for months and will continue to be and take them down.

I think you drastically underestimate McClain's cerebral ability.

I trust that Marinelli will know what to do with two really good LBers on the field at the same time. That's a good problem to have.

Fletch, I agree with you. Trust in Marinelli is a good approach to have.

I should have been a little more clear in my original thought. From all accounts, Sean Lee seems to be a 10-12 hr type of guy, he's always at Valley Ranch preparing. McClain seems to be the opposite. McClain is not a fan of Mon-Fri. but loves gameday. I'm just a little interested to see how that dynamic between two different personalities/approaches/leadership styles is going to work out. I always found it strange how Carter seemed to always play better when Lee is out. I love Lee and his approach but I don't see him being the leader of this defense anymore after this season. I think McClain has taken over and I think his approach is preferred by his teammates. Frankly, the defense seems to be enjoying themselves a lot more under McClain's leadership.

Guys. CTFO. What have we all be complaining about? Lee is too small to hold up at MLB. Give the guy a break and at least 1-2 more chances. He has football smarts AND ATTITUDE that when paired with RoMac could be devastating. You don't think there are subtleties that RoMac can't pick up from Sean? You don't think we are better with both on the field? What the hell is going on around here? Carter, McClain and Lee could be the smartest, fastest, meanest and most talented LB corp in the NFL when / if they could get on the field together.

I was looking at his injury history because I thought, it's not like Sean Lee has recurring injuries, but the fact is the guy is just made out of glass. Everything breaks on him.

In 5 years, he will have missed 34 games... That is mind boggling. 34/80 games missed...

Many will probably posit that we shouldn't have paid him. I would respond that we really haven't paid him yet.

He got a 10 million dollar signing bonus, and his base salary for this year was 750k and a restructure proration of 950k.

Over the next two years Sean Lee will have to prove that he can stay healthy. And in the mean time, his base salaries are very affordable. In 2017, the dead money to cut him outright would be about 4 million. 3 million in 2017 and 1 million in 2018 if cut in June.

Basically what this contract means is that we've taken an insurance policy out on Lee. We could even keep him in 2017 by restructuring between 2017 and and 2018, which would bring his cap hit to about 5 million, leaving the cost to cut him in 2018 at 3 million. Lee has already cost himself a great deal in bonuses.

The reality is this guy is a game changer when healthy, and if he can ever get to a point where he can remain healthy, he will help transform this defense into an elite squad.

The potential of having Lee and McClain on the field together would be amazing.
I agree it sucks, but he didnt cost himself anything. It isnt like he wanted to get injured.

im not so sure his cerebral style is a good chemistry fit with mcclain.

I think just the opposite, as in "opposites attract". I think they would be awesome out there together.

I'm not ready to say that Lee has no future on this team.

I think the WLB spot is a good one for him.

Mcclain is a free agent at the end of the year and may be gone.

You can't be serious? If so, you are nuts! No way Jerry let's this kid go. Ro is the epitomy of what Marinelli preaches, toughness and effort. Everyone recognizes this, from his teammates to the fans.
