The "Uniform Police" got him. Both Taylor and Portis were fined.

Yep, shirt must be tucked in, and socks must be high and tight. Hey, it's always good when a Deadskin(s) gets fined in my opinion. :D

Portis, Taylor fined for wearing red socks

December 10, 2004
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- Washington Commanders running back Clinton Portis was fined $5,000 by the NFL for wearing a pair of red socks last week, violating the league's uniform rules.

Portis wore red socks instead of the team's usual white in last Sunday's 31-7 victory over the New York Giants.

Portis had one of his best games in the different attire, running for 148 yards on 31 carries. After the game, he predicted he would be fined, but he said he had to make the change because, ``If you're not looking sweet, you really can't play too sweet.''

Rookie safety Sean Taylor, Portis' good friend and fellow ex-Miami Hurricanes star, also wore red socks and also was fined $5,000. Taylor was fined an additional $7,500 for unnecessary roughness during a roughing the passer penalty in the fourth quarter.

Glad Portis and Taylor are more worried about looking sweet than anything else. :D Boy I tell ya, Deadskins can definitely keep Portis and Taylor.

I wish I had $5,000 to burn on looking sweet. I'd by a helluva lot more than red socks.

"Not that Portis has totally abandoned his "look at me" persona.
He and former University of Miami teammate Sean Taylor junked the usual white socks for red ones.
And as the game ended, Portis celebrated outgaining Giants red-hot back Tiki Barber by 110 yards with a gaudy belt worthy of a boxing champion as he had done last year when he outrushed Kansas City star Priest Holmes while playing for AFC West rival Denver.
"I'll probably get fined, but I had to change my outfit," Portis said. "The white socks have been killing me. If you're not looking sweet, you really can't play too sweet. ... They were talking about Tiki Barber being the best back in the NFL so I pulled the belt out."

I wonder if portis will wear them again because we won last week?......

Even though it has NOTHING to do with anything I think he's crazy enough to....

How much does he make a week now 10,000-20,000 ?....whats 7,500 matter if your winning:D......I hope he doesn't BUT if we lose this game I am going to blame it on the socks...lol..... :p

If portis thnks he is better than tiki he needs to watch himself. He should look at the season he is having and the season tiki is having...

Portis IS better just not playing better......For the runningback to play well the passing game has to click and the line has to block.......Tiki has both of those when Warner is in......when manning is in well......he plays like he did today.....has he even had a desent game since Eli started?.......and eli is better than Brunell....lol.....

He had a bad game against the RAVENS...you know? The worst defense in football.

Before last week he had three consecutive 100 yard games, on 21, 21 and 19 carries. He also had 9 receptions for 85 yards.

His play really didn't drop until he started playing some of the best defenses in the NFL (he only had 42 yards the first time he played you).

Portis isn't in Barber's league.

Something tells me you were serious, but please tell me you were joking. PLEASE tell me!

Barber hasn't even had a better year than Portis' rookie year yet. And despite having a piss poor offense, Portis is still on pace for close to 1500 yards. So again, please tell me that was a joke.

Umm...who has scored more for their respective teams?

Yards are very nice...but if those yards are not helping your team score...it is just stats.

Good job Portis! You ran in Denver's system. Three backs this season have had 100 yard games in that system...Gary, Anderson, Davis, and Portis all had at least 1100 yards since 1995 (in 2001 they had Gary, Anderson and Davis who ran for a combined 1600 yards).

What has he done this season? 1173 yards on 298 carries? 5 touchdowns? 37 catches for 215 yards?

What about Barber? 258 carries for 1238 yards? 10 touchdowns? 42 receptions for 505 yards? With the worst starting QB and arguably the worse offensive line in the league?

Portis isn't in Barber's league...

Umm....Portis has 38 TDs since he's been in the league, Barber over the same period has 25.

Get real. Kurt Warner started for most of the season, and there is no way you can say with a straight face that he's worst than Brunell.
Portis with Ramsey in the game = 3 rush TDs 2 rec TDs about in 5 games
Portis with Brunell in the game = just 2 rush TDs in about 8 games
If Ramsey had started the whole season he stats would be much improved.

It's ridiculous to say Barber is better than Portis just based on this season

..wow...

..wow...

Those TDs that he had PRIOR to being a Commander has no value when talking about Barber Vs portis in the NFC East...which although it may not have been specified that way...I am sure it was implied to be that.

So once again THIS year, in the NFC East...Barber is the better back.

And I see nothing silly saying that he is better back because of this year...since once again we are all following teams in the NFC East with common opponents.

Let me add one more thing...the way portis is getting paid, compared to barber....portis should have SUPERIOR numbers in the same division...he does not.

If it was implied that he was just talking about this year, he didn't do a very good job. "Portis isn't in Barber's league"
That's laughable if you're talking about as a running back.

So once again THIS year, in the NFC East...Barber is the better back.
He should have said that in the first place. But one year doth not a career make.

Flawed.
I put up the numbers for Portis under Ramsey and Brunell already. With Brunell...honestly, who would focus on defending the pass? You could stack 10-11 guys in the box. Very difficult to run under those conditions.
And in the real world there is no way you can say someone is better or worse than another player based on just one year. If year after year Barber puts up better numbers than Portis (highly unlikely) on a consistant basis, then you'd have an argument. But there are way too many other factors to account for to do that after just one year (which isn't even over).
