Season concerns

Bingo!

This is a fundamental flaw in Jerry’s conflict of interest wearing both the owners and GM hat.

His owners role of eternal optimism promoting his brand outweighs his GM role planning for the worst case scenarios.

And why when it doesn’t meet his hopes he falls more into Damage Control mode because he’s not instinctive enough in football to see issues before they unfold.
I agree Jones falls into Damage Control but would add that his reaction in doing so does not originate from personal lack of awareness in football affairs, which he could have potentially averted, but from factors beyond anyone's control. In my opinion, Jones has always been convenience he is as qualified as any general manager. While few or no one else shares his self-image or confidence, he does.

Im not sure if it’s as much his confidence he’s as qualified or just the fact he knows he’s can’t be held as accountable as other GM’s?

Guys,
Being a lifelong Cowboy as we all are, I'm having a really tough time figuring out how we make the playoffs.
The NFC is so strong this year, even better than last year. 10 wins are a must to even consider making the playoffs.

I just don't understand our team mindset. I agree with building through the draft, but we seem to ignore FA these days. We seem to be missing out on some real value, low risk players.
I still cant understand why we didn't take a risk with one year contracts?

Sheldon Richardson- Went to the Vikings
Mathieu- Went to Texans
Eifert- Stayed with Bengals
Mo Wilkerson- signed with Packers
Josh Sitton- 2 years 15 million guard signed with Fins

We are not taking advantage of Dak's contract. We have a stud RB and still great O-line who knows what happens over the next 3 years? Is Elliott going to get a second contract, will he even be good after how much we run him? Will the O-line stay healthy enough with Tyron & Travis Frederick. Jerry & Stephen have dropped the ball with not being aggressive in FA. Our draft has been good enough, but you gotta go out and round out your team in FA. Just like the Eagles did last year. Always improve your roster, don't keep saying we like what we have.

I honestly think we are doing just enough to stay afloat and make Jerry Jones a ton of free cash flow. The Cowboys name will carry him forever. He is a HOF'er now, has 3 SB's, most valuable sports franchise. I feel like he wants to be NFL commish more than an owner.

I have a bad feeling that things have the possibility of going really bad this year. I hope I'm wrong but I also don't want to win 8 games and be in the middle and really be in the same situation next year.
Who wants to be .500 and Jerry saying.. "lets run this back one more time". We are stuck with Clapper & company again. I would give JG an ultimatum, playoff win or bust.

I don't get cutting Dez and then not using that cap $ on a trade and extension for Earl Thomas. I get cutting Dez. His production was trending down, and he clearly was no loner the explosive player we saw from 2010-2014 (with flashes in 2016 and 2017), but to not use that $ on a Safety, especially one that WANTS to be here is ludicrous. I would absolutely give up a 2nd for ET and maybe even a 1st.
I doubt the front office is fixated on money and/or salary cap impact as some observers but there is a noticeable difference in opinion between it and some fans concerning trade compensation as far as packaging draft picks.

I am no longer concered... I have come to terms and admit that our team has been, is, AND WILL KEEP BEING a mediocre team for years to come.
The Dynasty of the 70s and 90s are but long distant memories.

This FO, and coaching staff is a disgrace.
The last 20+ year of this franchise are an insult to what it once was

It's the same mind set, in a new season. Jerry and Jason always think they can outsmart the league. It's always a matter of, "if everything falls into place" instead of preparing yourself for and having contingency plans. That means that if things don't fall perfectly into place, they just sit back and say woulda, coulda, shoulda and next year we will make adjustments. I became a firm believer last year, after decades of faith, that this team will never win meaningful games as long as Jerry and Jason are in positions of power.

Im going to keep watching and they're going to keep making money, but it's more about watching football now than it is about watching the Cowboys. I'm actually hoping the Texans get to a Super Bowl quickly, because that might be the only thing that shocks some sense into Jerry/Stephen. If the fan base gets a giant upheaval and their bottom line is affected, MAYBE they'll start doing anything to win and stop trying to outsmart everyone.

The actual conclusion is debatable but my opinion is based upon Jones' narcissism. In short, I believe he thinks he is always right--even on those rare occasions when he publicly states he has been wrong. Basically, I have always felt Jones wholly embraces his overconfidence and considers personal accountability irrelevant for himself in practically all matters--football or other.

Growing up... I often asked myself back in the 90s what did the poor fans of the Browns, Seahawks, Cardinals, Jets, Buccs felt for being everlasting loosers... well guys... I NOW KNOW... We all know... dont we?

Wake up guys, smell the coffee!!!

Our dallas Cowboys are a mediocre team.
We are no longer dominant
We will not dominate
We will NOT WIN SB
Yes there will an ocassional good game or season her and there.. or maybe a one year wonder season. but that is it.

Not with this owner
Not with this %·$&$/&/(&( of a head coach.

EVER

Our lack of playoff success has been more about a lack of talent than coaching this era.

I think we have some talent on this team but, the coaching has to teach and be able to maximize that talent. Out game plans are
grade school worthy and there's a big reason we lose games in the second half of games. Linehan and Garrett are second rate
coaches at best.

This all comes back to Culture. We have lost the culture of winning. Jimmy Johnson was a genius beyond his time. What he did in his 5 years is incomparable to almost any coach or organization. He took a sad sack beaten down organization and turned them into a winner. 89 --> 93..

There is a saying even in the business world.. Culture eats strategy for Breakfast everyday. Until we fix this culture of losing and excuses we will not move forward as an organization.
We accept players who show up late for meetings, sleep through meetings, cant run the full route tree. (Dez). Do you guys think that crap is tolerated under Jimmy? Under BIll Belichick, under Parcells?
Our HC just claps his way through the game. He doesn't run, O, D or special teams, at least learn how to manage the game, stop spitting and clapping. Hold the team accountable. Why cant the ownership see how fake and contrived this organization is?
The proof is in the results of what you see on the field. Ownership does not care about SB's. You would have to be out of your mind if you thought Jerry wakes up everyday thinking how can I get this team to a SB. He just might be satisfied, running the business end, raking in cash, getting his face on TV.

I'm obviously still going to watch and root for this team but nothing surprises with this Org.

But knowing we aren’t going to have better coaching under Jerry we need greater talent.

dckid... i COMPLETLY agree with you.
i will always root for this team... but i do not expect anything

But knowing we aren’t going to have better coaching under Jerry we need greater talent.
Stephen is never going to pay for aging talent. He believes in the draft especially the 1st 3 rounds in order to build a team. They also
believe in paying their own players not names from other teams.

Now next draft we'll use all 3 of our first picks on TE's. Meanwhile, "WE DON' NEED NO STINKIN' SAFETIES!!!!!!!!"

I extremely doubt it. My position has always been that an attack on Jones' internal self-image would be the only thing that could prompt personal change within him.

jerry and Stephen live in their own world and us fans live in a different one along with every body else
