The only people that ever got on that train was mistakenly thinking it was going somewhere else.

A Brown gets more of a pass here than any corner we've had in 20 years.

Hold on.

He actually played pretty well down the stretch last year. Denying that is just silly. It wasn't like he was obviously sucky last year and people just tricked themselves into thinking he had actually played well.

He did, in fact, play pretty well for a rookie coming down the stretch of the season.

I really can't stop laughing at people who expected "more" out of Carroll.

He's been a trash CB for a few years now. Why did you think he would suddenly not be a trash CB?

He wasn't. It was always a matter of time before he got exposed. You guys just want him to be better than he is so you fool yourself into thinking because he wasn't a target, he must be a good cover man. Anytime he isn't being picked on its is ONLY because our D is a candy store for quarterbacks.

This offseason was a start. Shedding all of our VERY average vets needed to be done. However, this remains one of the worst secondaries in football and much more Work is needed. This is what I would do next offseason.

CUT:
Carroll. Nothing more needs to be said here
OSCan. If not for Dez he would be the most overrated player on this roster. Just go back and watch Kuiper abuse him all game long.
Frazier. Dude should be pumping gas. Has no business getting NFL snaps.

MOVES:
Jones. Move from safety to corner. He just doesn’t have the instincts to play deep
Awuzie. Move from corner to safety
Heath. To the bench
Woods. Into the starting lineup

I would also look to bring in fairly high priced free agent and spend another top three pick in the secondary

I see your complaints and I raise you Garrett and the Cowboys FO who have been building this amazing defense for the last 6 years and finally have all the pieces for a perennial contender

Can you say "shut down defense" and in only 6 years?

I can only stand back in awe and admire their handiwork

OK, so he was bad last year. Really awful.

Got it.

He was decent in game 1 and terrible for a a half in game 2. It's hard to say how bad he is based on that.

I think Lewis, Brown and Scandrick are better but it's really hard to accurately judge Carroll based on this season.

He takes awful angles to balls when he's playing a deep safety. He's not an awful FS, but he's a not a very good one either.

He's at his best when he comes up and locks up a TE or big WR.

Lots of folks don’t understand the full role of the free safety position. In addition to playing the position, he’s responsible for making sure 3veryone gets aligned correctly to counter the offensive look. That’s not a job you want a rookie playing, and people are saying Awuzie and Woods. It’s far made re important to have some intelligence and experience back there.

I think Brown, Awuzie, and Lewis can handle the CB positions. Athleticism s more of a premium here, and those two can handle it just fine. Hang on to Scandrick and keep playing him in the slot.

Then junk the zone and play man coverage.

It's pretty simple. They are man corners .. they were asked to play more zone here. They leave, go play man and are excelling
They played more man than zone.

Either player might be OK if surrounded by talent.

mr Lee--- it just makes me "boil"...that a D coordinator cannot custom his scheme for the strenghths of his players

He did last year, if I recall correctly. However, injury, suspensions, and lack of D line production squandered the best secondary play I'd seen in Dallas for a long time. Our current group is still TBD.

It's early but Lewis, Awuzie and Woods look promising. I'd draft/sign another her legitimate safety early to pair with Woods. Let Jones focus on the nickel/dime S role.

It's really not.

He's a bad CB.

I don't know why some of you continue to try to trick yourself or hope that this isn't the case.

But Heath is a bad player.....he could play for free and still be overpaid. Scandrick is hardly paid like a star lol....
Heath is not a "bad player". He deserved a chance to start, which is looking like a bad move, but Heath is a good backup safety, and a excellent special teams player.

I'm actually kind of excited about this group's future.

We've got good pieces with Jones, Brown, Awuzie, Lewis and Woods.

But you can't go around cutting players. You need depth.

This doesn't appear to be a great year for CBs in the draft either:
Tavarius McFadden/Florida State - The closest thing to a sure thing, will probably go top 10.
Jaire Alexander/Louisville - Sometimes he looks lights-out but the last few years, Louisville DBs haven't shown much when they get to the league.
Anthony Averett/Alabama - Seems to be rising up the rankings, need to see more.
Adonis Alexander/Virginia Tech - Great size, questions about his speed. Some project him as a safety.
Kevin Tolliver/LSU - Might have discipline issues. If true, avoid.
P. J. Locke III/Texas - A guy I really like but, like the guys we have, his best position is slot CB.
Iman Marshall/USC - I'm a USC homer so I've seen him a lot. Very inconsistent.
Jordan Thomas/Oklahoma - Injured, out for the year.
Tony Brown/Alabama - Blazing fast but technique is shaky.

Add Auburn's Carlton Davis to this list, he has been getting a lot of buzz lately.
6'1" 203 lbs.

Respectfully, you don't have a clue. The secondary is fine. You don't just go around switching player positions on a whim. Let them get better where they are. They will be fine. Get some real studs to play on the Dline. That's where the game is won and lost. You do that, and the secondary will take care of itself.
