Lots of folks don’t understand the full role of the free safety position. In addition to playing the position, he’s responsible for making sure 3veryone gets aligned correctly to counter the offensive look. That’s not a job you want a rookie playing, and people are saying Awuzie and Woods. It’s far made re important to have some intelligence and experience back there.
Easy way to counter that would be just have your strong safety make the calls and get everyone aligned. Voila

Heath is not a "bad player". He deserved a chance to start, which is looking like a bad move, but Heath is a good backup safety, and a excellent special teams player.

What make sure him a good backup? What are the qualifications of being a good backup? How many snaps does a good backup play? Either you can play in this league or you can't. He's a special teams player.....you can find good special teams players.

What bothers me is none of what we're seeing now in games is a big surprise to the coaches. Can't be. A player, who performs this poorly in games at the basic fundamental skills of playing a particular position, is not shining in practice. There's just no way. The only excuse is maybe the lack of padded and full contact practices.

I think people are just waiting for him to become a center-field, playmaker type but he hasn't shown an ability to do that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but other than a hail-mary INT, he's still without one.

Deflects a lot of passes, but leaves a lot on the table.
This isn't what he is asked to do. He is used to take TEs out of the game and to jam up slot players.

Except his idea was to start Woods and Awuzie...two rookies.

I think that works fine if you’re still starting Jones or Heath at one of the safety positions.

About half and half. Jones definitely played down by the line much of the Rams game with Woods and Frazier alternating takkng his place at Safety. Other games he plays deep more
