Serious Question, Why Did We Struggle Against Gmen???

Kinda bored, so I was thinking why did we struggle with the G-men this year?

2 of our 5 losses came to the Giants, thats 40% of our losses were to one team. We swept the rest of the division, beating both the skins and eagles twice each.

Considering the Giants didnt even make the playoffs, it is not like they were just better or something. Clearly we are the better team, we just dont match up good with them for some reason.

Is it mental??? Are we still kinda intimidated by them from what happend in 07? Is it just bad match ups personnel wise? Is it being outcoached in terms of adjustments that are made?

I really have no idea, it just seems odd to me that we swept the rest of the division both lost twice to the Giants who didnt even make the playoffs.

Any ideas????

I think part of the reason is that we were still playing better-than-average, but sloppy football when we played them. Certainly the first game was Romo's worst of the year, and I think possibly more because of his own shortcomings than anything else. In hindsight, it was a good thing as it forced him to look at things differently. As for the second one, they were better than us that day, but we certainly weren't playing good football at that stage. We were bad enough that a lot of people were predicting us not to win another game.

That's the only thing that has bothered me about this season. Lots of good things have happened, but we still got swept by the Giants....

I still blame Garrett for the first game. He should have kept running the ball! The giants simply couldn't stop our running game. They had a safety playing so deep it was ridiculous. We were winning, we had the ball, Romo had been off most of the game.. run the damn ball.

I am still not sure what happened the second game.

Two reasons for two games.

Game 1: Too much hoopla and pressure because of the opening of the stadium. Teams throughout the league have done poorly in that situation. Plus at that time Cricket was playing instead of Phillips, Spencer hadn't found himself, and Miles was on the bench

Game 2: New York was desperate and we weren't. They were fighting for their playoff lives. We were coming off a little streak and had perhaps too comfortable a situation with our division lead.

In the first game, we were messing around who the starter was going to be at CB. If we had started Jenkins in that game, I think the result would have been different. Even with all the INTs, it came down to the last minute FG for them to win.

Second game, we just missed couple of plays that made the difference.

They passed the ball more efficiently in both games.

Tony Romo largely lost the first game, whether you believe it was a fluke or not, it was a quarterback loss.

In game 2, the defense allowed Eli Manning to somehow pass the ball more efficiently than Romo despite Romo having one of his best games ever.

1st game: turnovers
2nd game: like @GB, we were outplayed by a desperate team

Strange things happen when a team's back is against the wall. Just look at us @New Orleans. I'd like to think that we're a genuinely better team than NO, but that 24-3 lead occurred because, at that time, we had nothing to lose and came out firing.

Like in Week 2 when the ball bounced off Witten's foot and was intercepted.

If Romo doesn't throw a horrible pass, it doesn't bounce off of Witten's foot.

That's not a fluke, it's poor play on Romo's part.

To my knowledge, Eli has had a ton - TON - of bad passes and none of them have gone off of his receivers foot directly into the hands of a defender.

The potential was likely there for some of them, but it just didn't happen. I'm sure the Giants had their fair share of "unluckiness" to balance it out. I still don't consider that luck though, it's just a case of a poor play happening to become poorer.

Eh...potential bad luck is not good luck and it's not the same as bad luck. I'm sorry but any time an incomplete pass bounces off a receivers foot and directly into the arms of a defender who isn't even looking to make a play on the ball is dumb luck. Yes it was a bad throw, but New Jersey was a billion per cent lucky to get that bounce.

Just like they were lucky on the batted ball by Ratliff. 99 times out of 100 that ball hits the turf or is picked.

Good answers all around.

I agree about the bad luck. The ball bounces off Witten's foot right to the defender who is not even looking at the ball??? The deflected pass that the Giant's receiver caught while laying on the ground in the end zone??? The tipped pass by Ratliff on 3rd down that went right to a Giants receiver???

Sometimes its just the other team's day I guess.

I've been asking myself that question for some time now... I mean, when we played them the first time, they were hot, on a roll... but they were struggling when we faced them the second time around...

The only thing I can come up with is they're just a team that matches up well with us... IOW, their strengths go up against our weaknesses...

Yea, for some reason we just dont match up good with them. If the truth be told, I would be more worried playing the Giants this weekend if they were in the playoffs and the Eagles were home. I would much rather play the Eagles again than play the Giants again this weekend.

In 1995 we won the super bowl, finshed 12-4 in the regular season.

We were swept by the lowly Commanders. They finished 6-10 that year.

So what am I saying? That it doesnt really mean much.
