The 49ers haven't had the best past year, huh? NaVorro Bowman wrecking his knee, Aldon Smith's personal issues potentially derailing his career, Kaepernick regressing big time, Crabtree flatlining as a player, Ahmad Brooks calling out the coaching staff, Harbaugh being thrown under the bus by the organization, hiring a bootlicker as a replacement, and now their defensive leader, and a true character guy, facing retirement.

Couldn't happen to a nicer organization. Jed York said when throwing Harbaugh out the door that he wanted to win with class. That will be a lot harder to do without Patrick Willis.

And they probably lose their best OL in Iupanti to FA.

The 49ers will not even be recognizable next year.

I have never seen a team that close to being a perennial contender fall apart (well, get ripped apart) so fast.

Neither have I. That front office is turning this into the Titanic real quick, and players are heading for the lifeboats.

That's what happens when an unqualified kid has Mommy let him play Fantasy Football for real.

I'm glad to see that the Niners push for a SB lasted only a couple of years. They won't be cellar dwellers yet, but hitting 8-8 will be a challenge.

I have no love for SF, but remember the start of last year? Our LB group wasn't looking so good either after the loss of Holliman and Lee; in general they ended up fairly good. And if the consensus on Kaepernick is poor accuracy, then replacing him should be an upgrade.

This is plug-and-play league. In the words of REO Speedwagon, "you got to roll with the changes".

In that division they will be cellar dwellers. The Rams will finish ahead of them and you know the Cards and Seahawks are.

Even if they came back intact, just having Tomsula as a head coach would make 8-8 a feat. While he seems to be "popular" with the players, I do not see him commanding a contending team. Even his staff is remarkably weaker than what Harbaugh had. I love the direction they are heading, which is straight down.

49ers are no threat for a 6th ring

What a stunning fall for a team who looked like they had all the pieces. A coach who knew how to win dominant defense, great running game, Pro Bowl TE and a future HOFer (according to Jaworski) at QB.

Now the coach has been run out of town
The defense is decimated.
Frank Gore is as good as gone.
Willis is retiring.
And the only way the QB will see Canton is if he rents a car.

Wow is right!

49ers might be the worst team in football next year. Their GM should be fired midseason when they start 1-7.

The last interception Willis caught was thrown by Romo.

Geez -- I'm picturing all the 49er fans standing around with their hands to their foreheads. No joy in Frisco.

They were the model. Build a solid OL and put together a great D and look forward to a decade of success.

Looks like the host team won't go to another Super Bowl.
