Not sure if I buy this-shouldn't this be an EXCUSED absense? Even Reid and Andrews' agent all but admitted the absenses remained unexcused and the fines will be paid.

PHILADELPHIA—Philadelphia Eagles guard Shawn Andrews says he is battling depression and might end his training camp holdout this week.

Andrews tells the Philadelphia Daily News in an exclusive interview Monday that he has decided to get professional help and is on medication. The two-time Pro Bowl selection says the depression began more than a year ago and has worsened.

Andrews says he is to meet a doctor Thursday and could return to the team this weekend.

He confirmed he is being fined $15,000 per day by the team because his absence is unexcused.

Andrews says he has been working out and is in top shape at 335 pounds.

i wonder how they handled ADD, depression, not having a drug that cures 1 "problem" while only creating a few dozen more and all the germ killing salves we have now back in say 1735.

Maybe. Or maybe he's an obese piece of crap who doesn't want to endure the rigors of camp. If he suddenly "gets well" a week before the season starts, I'll have my answer.

True-but the whole pt here is that IF he was getting proper treatment during this time, then why are the Eagles still fining him for all the days he missed?

He's planning to arrive in camp this week I believe. That's a few weeks before the season starts. Not sure how that helps/hurts your theory.

This guy gets paid millions of dollars to play a game for a living and he's depressed?

Time to man up.

Philly is as cheap as it comes, could of used some of that asante samuel money to make guys like andrews and westbrook feel a little more respected because they are top players at their positions.

He said on Fri, but the Eagles play the Steelers that day, so it'll have to be Sat...which is when Philly pretty much wraps up their TC.

Too little, too late.

I don't think there's anyone alive (or dead) that's never gone through depression of varying degrees. The thing is, these days every one seems to think they can just get a prescription and it'll solve all their problems. The only way to get over depression is to decide you want to get over it and make the necessary changes in your life to do so. I'm not going to get into this discussion here though.

That may be true of people being upset about a particular bad experience, etc. But it is not true of people suffering what is termed "clinical depression" - this is medical condition owing to neurotransmitter imbalances. This isn't about just wanting to take a drug to change your life -- this is about having serious chemical imbalance, that regardless of your situation, will screw you up.

I absolutely guarantee you that if you suffered from that sort of chemical imbalance you wouldn't be able to just "get over it" -- that is like saying "get over your cancer"
