Chris Mortensen is reporting that WR coach Ray Sherman will interview for the Rams HC job. Also Todd Bowles will interview for the Detroit HC job. Bowles and new GM Martin Mayhew were teammates in Washington.

Also, the Browns reportedly gave Scott Pioli till today to accept their GM/director of FO job or else they will move on. If Pioli accepts, reportedly they will hire Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz as HC. Cleveland Plain-Dealer says that Mike Shanahan will be a candidate for HC job as well if Pioli doesnt come on.

They (Rams) are interviewing Winston Moss too though. And the Lions are interviewing Jerry Gray and Leslie Frazier too.

Good luck to him if it's a legit interview. I'd hate to lose him but if he has a shot at being a HC go for it.

I really don't want to lose Sherman. He's a great coach, and I think is a viable candidate to take over as OC if/when the position becomes vacant.

The owner's treat the Rooney Rule like it is a joke. The only team who actually followed the spirit of the rule was the Steelers.

I would be shocked if anyone hired Ray Sherman as their HC. They might as well invite Terry Robiskie for an interview.

Sherman has considerable respect in this league for his ability to develop talent. That's more why he's getting the interview than the Rooney Rule. He's the kind of guy you'd want to have when you planned to rebuild.

With Moss, he's an up and coming guy who is going to get sniffs as both a HC and DC - the Pack obviously think highly of him as he is the Assistant HC.

Of course, I doubt that Hasslet doesn't keep that job so the Rams are using this opportunity to bring in guys that they are likely considering more as coordinators than HC candidates. Moss, however, might be the guy that comes out of nowhere, blows someone away, and ends up getting hired (much like Mike Tomlin did).

he's been an OC before, and he wasnt very good at it

I do think he's done a nice job with Austin and Crayton. I dont want him being OC here though.

Some owners do treat it as a joke - but then look at a guy like Mike Tomlin he was a coordinator for only a single year in Minny and a pro coach for only 6 years. With the Rooney Rule he got a shot to interview and blew away the Steelers who looked set to promote someone from Cowher's staff.

Contrast that to a guy like Tony Dungy. Dungy coached for 16 years, 9 of those as a coordinator before getting a shot at a HC position - I do not believe he even interviewed for a single position as HC before the TB gig. I can't believe that if an owner was forced to take the time to sit down with Dungy, that the owner would not come have come away very impressed by both his character and knowledge of the game - he likely would have had that HC shot much earlier.

Sure. But they are likely using the opportunity to discuss with him the possibility of becoming the OC as well. They have to have a legitimate interest in some manner as they are also bringing in Winston Moss.

So either they want to double fulfill the rule or they like these guys for other roles

me here thinks bowles will be detroits new coach. mayhew has ties with him from the days both played in washington's defensive backfield. i remember mayhew, he was a free agent corner who started opposite darrell green for a while. i'm kinda surprised he's the gm now.

I wonder why it has only been the Steelers who have followed the "Rooney" Rule.

With the logic that some posters use on this board, shouldn't we be praying Ray leaves considering it is his fault that the receivers production has fallen off and it is Ray's fault that TO, Williams(11), and Crayton stop on their routes. According to certain poster's logic, the players cannot be responsible for their poor play, only the coaches (specifically the position coaches) are the reason for the Cowboy's collapse this season

Becareful if you disagree with this way of thinking, your intelligence will be questioned and degraded:laugh2:

I'll tell you one guy who deserves a Head Coaching shot, not just Rooney Rule interviews...Emmitt Thomas, the Falcons DC.

Great man.
