This team is looking very short term. How much longer can Bledsoe go? He has next year and MAYBE one more year left in the tank. Our Oline is old, our D looks solid but our O is old. we might make the playoffs for 2 years but 2 years down the road what are we going to be? Even two of our best players will most likely leave to FA, Roy and Witten.

Parcells will most likely be gone, Bledsoe gone, JJ and Barber are ?s. Keyshawn Glenn and Price are gone, maybe after this year.

I mean seriously, how can you look at our future and feel good, there are not many posisitions we are set at for more than 3 years.

First of all I highly doubt the Roy or Witten go anywhere.

Our D is very young, and I'm pretty confident that it'll just get better over the next few years.

You really can't look 3 years into the future regardless. Since BP came in the turnover rate has been huge. Its not that hard for a team to cycle in young guys in a 3 year time frame.

Contrary to what you have stated, our O-line is not that old. Only our guard positions will need eventual replacments. The prime age for an O-linemen is much older than other positions.

Our future QB is indeed a question mark. To me Henson just doesnt have it, but we have 2 years to draft a new QB the way Bledsoe is playing.

Patience. We can only rebuild one piece at a time. Our defense was completely depleted. Now that it looks young and will be very good, we can spend the next two drafts replenishing the offense. And no way Roy or Witten get away. Jerry almost always keeps the guys he thinks are worth it. Even if he has to over pay sometimes. But I agree we need to go offense in the next two drafts.

Barber and JJ i think will both be signed, well maybe JJ wont. Roy and witten are not going anywhere that is ridiculous, they're cowboy stars and theyre part of a really good team, not only that we can pay them what they want anyways.
We do need a big overhaul on offense though. We need to address a lot of areas, and we should do it mostly imo through the draft.
OT, OG, C, WR, QB(maybe),FB all need to be addressed on the offensive side with someone that has talent and youth. We should be able to address most of those through the draft similar to how Parcells filled a lot of holes on defense through last years draft.

I just dont want Bledsoe to leave and we go back to the years of revolving QBs by trying to start Henson and Romo. Draft a QB this year and let him sit under Bledsoe

Neither of these guys have a future on the team. Even if somehow one of them turned out to be good, we still need another young QB that has potential, and Romo or henson need to be gone. Gradkowski or Cutler in the later rounds would be possible.

Well certainly theres age at certain positions, but theres a number of positions now that are good, and young.

Everything is relative. 3 or 4 years ago we didnt hardly have a *thing* to hang our hat on personnel wise.

When you have about 16 starting holes to fill, it's kinda hard to do it in that short of time. Sure theres more work to be done in some areas. But if you dont think guys like Roy, Newman, Henry, Witten, Ware, Spears, James, Crayton, Jones and Barber, to name a few, give you a reason to think the future is bright, so be it.

A lot brighter anyway than when your *stud* RB was Hambrick and your *stud* CB was Mario Edwards, for example. Not to mention a ton of other stiffs that filled out the roster.

Jerry Jones will not let Roy and Witten go.

Crayton, is growing to be a top reciver on our team, and we can always Draft another one.

QB, maybe Henson.

And on the D we have our two starting CB under 30, with Reeves, and Jones, growing up.

We have the likes of Ratliff, Spears, Ware, Canty, Burnett, Pepper, On the DL and LB.

You dont draft an entire team in one draft. To be succesful you have to have a mizture of Vet's and Youngons, to balance your team. As the rookies and young guys get older, we will be drafting younger guys, and so on and so on

Just wait, you'll see

My friend, the future is now.

Think about this...the Lions wasted how many years waiting for Joey Harrington to come around...the Jets seemed to have lost their Franchise QB to injury...

Let's be thankful that we have a top notch QB this year and maybe next, the future will take care of itself.

I think in the NFL you are always dealing with the short term.
The NFL life is not thaT Long. Dat is a good example...
More guys play 5-7 yrs in the NFL than 12/15...
all that being said we have a very young D.....
And I think thats where champions start....

While we do need to rebuild on offense, ... 30+ players on our roster have 3 yrs or less in the league.

And 6 more have 4 yrs experience.

Gradkowski nor Cutler will be there in the later rounds- both gone first day, I would venture to say.

gradkowski in the 3rd would be fine with me. We need to take a shot on a qb with real experience, that will be more likely to at least fill in if need be and hopefully develop into something good. I dont see much in the future for Romo or Henson, although I used to be really high on Henson. Gradkowski is extremely accurate. We may end up waiting til 2007, but no later than that.

Thats what we have a 2-3 year window here. We have more young talent than we've had since 1996/7.

I'm building this team up - not breaking it up.
We are going to make a push into the palyoffs next few seasons.

Sit back and enjoy it.

Very well said.

If anything, some of these positions might be easier to fill once some of these old guys go. I love Allen, but think how many starting quality OL you can get on his salary?

Johnson, Crayton, Julius, Barber, Witten and Petitti are all very young players. I think there might be something to Copper as well. Heck, even Flo isn't that old.

Defensively, the team is really young. Roy, Newman, James, Shanle, Ware, Burnett, Canty, Spears...those guys are all just pups. Henry isn't that old yet.

I personally think BP uses the draft to get the pieces he needs to put the defense over the top this year (some combo of OLB, NT, ILB, but especially OLB) and uses the later rounds to find some OL.

I am talking about not just the short term, but drafting people means long term. Short term is if we were to continue signing a lot of free agents, which I dont think we will.

Well gee, maybe you should go find another team to root for, since things are so completely grim for the Cowboys... I mean, it's not even remotely possible that they'll address holes in the roster with future offseason moves...

Next, kindly share with us the inside stories you have that tell you that Roy and Jason are going to hit the free agent highway... failing that, your whole theory is shown to be BULLS***...

I agree we have about a 3-year window with what we have right now.

But how we address a few key areas (QB, WR, OL) could make that window a lot larger. We have a nice young defensive nucleus already, with a TE, RB's and few young OL with potential. Our window may not close for awhile.

The sky isn't falling. The D was rebuilt in one off season. The O needs less work.
