Short-yardage running

There was a running back that played for Minnesota.......I think it was Minny.

He was interviewed and he said " If you need 2 yards, I'll get ya 3.......If you need 6 yards, I'll get ya 3."

Don't remember who that was but found it amusing.
The last game I saw Zeke get 5 yards when they needed 2 . Good sign of things to come , when Dallas needs 2 yds Zeke will break out and get a TD instead.

Understandable.
But AP also had 6 games his rookie year where he averaged less than 4.0 YPC.
8 games where he had less than 100 yards.
1 game where he had 14 carries for 3 yards.

So we are 2 games in with Zeke where teams are clearly stacking the box to stop our running game and some fans are acting like we just drafted Trent Richardson.

Well that is not me, I am not in panic mode after 2 games.

I am just speaking about what the expectations should be for a RB drafted @ 4 and they should be AP like.

I for one am rooting for the guy, but he has work to do.

At this point, you should write a letter to Zeke and tell him you know more than him about football. No doubt he will be laughing in hour face as I am now. LOL

Good luck with that.
That's the best you can come up with?
Over 5k post on this forum and you haven't picked up on some of the better comebacks yet.
Your reply isn't even slightly witty or funny. Just a little awkward.

We are not even using him right.where are screen passes?.they should line him out wide like at OSU.these coaches have no creativity.

When the player himself agrees with the guy you are arguing with you have lost the argument. But by all means, keep going.

I definitely agree. They arent even throwing him the ball. Supposedly one of his better qualities.

We agree completely. Nicely done.

When a player says the right thing to the media and a fan I am arguing with doesn't have the ability to understand simple logic then I have already lost the argument.
Your that guy who keeps repeating himself in an argument because he thinks its his only strong enough point....even if the point isn't valid.

They are playing to normal expectations. Yes.
Put it like this....they are playing well enough that opposing teams are not going to suddenly change their game plan against us and start scheming to take away the pass.
Zeke and our offensive line are opening up the defense to get beat through the air. While Dak has been great. He has been great because he is smart enough to not force what the defense has covered. This is like walking up to a stacked line with an entire defense cheating up, ready to shoot the gaps and its 1st down and 10. Everyone in the building expects you to run right at the defense....and we do...and you expect a level of success beyond what we have gotten? Seriously?

This just isn't realistic. The defense is playing our run primarily. Our offensive line and RB's results are what you should expect.

Again it's not their performance that is lacking..,it's fans expectations that are lacking.
Teams played to take away the run last year, too, but McFadden had a good year running. I think it's logical to expect any RB picked number 4 (let alone one that was supposed to be all-world, like Zeke) to run as well as McFadden last year. It's Claiborne all over again. I'm not saying Zeke is as much a disappointment as Mo, but it's disingenuous to change your tune to accept average or slightly-above average when you gave up that much for a player. The expectations were set by the team and the Zeke fans. Don't go blaming us now.

AP did it for years, he never had a QB.

Is it fair after 2 games, probably not, but those are the expectations for a RB drafted @ 4.

Amen. Peterson has faced a stacked box his whole career. I think he's done a decent job.

Do you think Zeke fumbling twice is him doing a good job? I guess he got benched because of his stellar play?

Try to be non biased in your views. Zeke is playing middling right now. Im not saying he wont break out. But this is NOT what we signed up for when we took this kid with the 4th pick.
The first fumble was a GREAT play by Norman. I can name you literally no RB that wouldnt have fumbled the ball on that play. Zeke had it covered up and the peanut punch knocked it out. The second fumble was his fault yes. Hopefully he learns from it, and moves forward. Fumbling was NEVER his issue in college. You need to stop with your knocks on Zeke because the guy you wanted to draft isnt having a great season after TWO games. I want to see how this all stacks up at the end of the season and i still think that OROY is going to go to Zeke once he figures everything out and gets time with the line that he missed in PS.

Im not impressed. Emmitt used to get some of his biggest plays on short yardage. I see Elliott mostly running into the back of his lineman and pushing the pile.

Trust me, when Zeke starts rolling, if he start rolling, it should be night and day. I cant believe this is all the kid has to offer.

I think it's too soon to know what all he has to offer. I'm glad, though, that the short-yardage game has shown improvements from the past when we had to rely on Romo to pass on third-and-1 to pick up a first down.

That's the only thing I wanted to point out.

They have split him out wide, but haven't thrown him the ball in those situations. We had an interesting formation we ran against Washington near the goal line where Elliott and three receivers lined up on the left side, with Elliott behind the receivers. I think the intent was to throw a screen to Elliott behind the receivers but the Commanders called a timeout.

I would like to see the team run some more traditional screens with him, though, because we have some big men on this line who can move. Chicago seemed to be fairly aggressive on defense in its game with Philadelphia so maybe we'll see one or two although I wouldn't be surprised if we don't because we haven't been big on RB screens for years, even before Garrett became head coach.

Ezekiel Elliott on his 'average' first game: 'That's not why I was brought here'
