Shotty, McCarthy, or Garrett

1 - McCarthy
2 - Schottenheimer
3 - Garrett
The only possible correct answer.

None are World Beaters, but McCarthy is, as of 2025, still the best of the bunch. He has skins on the wall. I think that his biggest failing in Dallas was the lack of playoff success. There are a lot of teams that would like to HAVE that problem.

Schottenheimer has potential and COULD end up being better, or maybe not. Its just too early to say. Ask again in 3 years.

I liked Garrett as a person and he would devise a great game plan offensively.... BUUUTTTTTTT if it didn't work, he could NOT adjust at all.

I don't think Jimmy was the best coach ever because man-to-man, I would take Landry every day, but I prefer Jimmy's style of coaching because today's athletes gravitate and respond to winners who have strong personalties, clear vision and high expectations.
Todays players gravitate to whomever will write the biggest paycheck. None of that other stuff matters a bit. Jimmy was a good maybe great coach but he caught lightning in a bottle. There's a reason he didn't last long when he left the Cowboys.

MM by far, he was/is a really good coach. I think he just got lazy in Dallas and fell to the culture where winning a ring wasn’t the priority. He was basically collecting paychecks towards the end.

I like Shotty the best. Offense is productive and they use better more modern schemes. I don't notice weird time management decisions. He seems the most straight forward as well. Defensive coordinator seems like the biggest issue to me from the coaching side, and 3 schemes in 3 years isn't great.

.>Shotty will be the NEW Landry of this generation. ;)..

They did best under McCarthy, but none of them thrill me. Here's an idea - how about we hire from among the best coaches on Earth? I know, I know, what am I thinking?
Like I keep saying
1.good nfl coaches know about jerry and cap boy, and dont want to work for them,
2. the good ones want big pay, and well jerry and cap boy are too cheap.( they be low on cash you know lol)
3.the good ones want to win, and that is hard to do with jerry and cap boy handling personnel, making trades, buying in FA.
4.Any coach that comes here will have a big weight around their neck, holding them back and making it hard to get to a SB, and that weight is the jones boys. Most good coaches dont want to waste time trying to win here.

I know I would rather coach any other team , unless I just wanted to be in spotlight and get paid a cheap salary.
Which would be ok for me, 3 mil a year sounds pretty good to me. Tell jerry I am available.

Schottenheimer has shown signs of potential and as a Cowboys fan I will root for him to succeed, but he seems to do the same thing McCarthy did which was leave people on the field who are not performing well.

To his credit, Schottenheimer is an offensive coach and he not only correctly pick Javonte to start, he also shifted from a planned running back rotation to Javonte as primary and only replaces him for breathers. He also moved on from Tolbert which is really impressive considering Tolbert was not a bad receiver but it was clear he had hit his ceiling with the Cowboys.

On defense, it may be a situation where he's leaving those decisions up to Eberflus out of respect for a former head coach, but he needs to learn this is his team, not Eberflus' team and he is responsible for the team's performance, not just that of the offense.
I dont think he can do anything about eber, Jones boys hired him, so that means shotty has no say in the matter.
He did try to help him, but flus , there is something wrong with him mentally, did u see the game in chicago where they had like 1.30 left and only ran 2 plays in that time? It was so bizarre, I was laughing and thinking what are they doing ??

Look man this is too early I don't want to be that guy to say hey why don't we wait and give Schottenheimer at least three seasons and then we can judge because right now if I had to pick obviously Mike Mccarthy had the 36 wins two division titles went to the playoffs three straight years he had to suffer a lot of injuries and problems in year one and his last year. But really it right now it has to be big Mike he's the most successful but I really believe Schottenheimer is gonna be the best of them because I like the way he's attacked the offense changed the offense along with the hires he made with Riley and Adams He's changing our offense into something that's not From the Jurassic..

No Mike Mccarthy tried to change the West Coast Offense into the Texas Coast Offense or whatever the hell they called it it was two Vanilla the run game was disjointed from the past game it just didn't feel the same they're putting Prescott back under center they're disguising a lot of their sets runs could be passes passes can be runs and it's helping..

Imagine another offseason the things they can add if you ask me now it's Big Mike if you're asking me my gut I think Schottenheimer when he gets A staff that he can win with I don't want to call out the special teams coach or the DC but they're not helping..

I imagine in year two and if we give him a 3rd year we're going to get to see more of his vision and maybe I'm just being too positive but I just think I like him so far I would pick him if I had to forecast but let's not discount what Big Mike did just 'cause they kept him one more year on a lame duck contract there were still a lot of injuries a lot of problems You really can't blame him for those two years that he wasn't successful so you got to keep those three years it's one of the best 3 year runs we had didn't he win like 18 home games in a row I mean let's not dismiss big mike he did a good job here.....
I think mike had Parsons for all 3 of his successful years.
Shotty had him ............for TC lol
Take parsons out of the equation and mike would not have had those 3 12 - 5 years.

MM by far, he was/is a really good coach. I think he just got lazy in Dallas and fell to the culture where winning a ring wasn’t the priority. He was basically collecting paychecks towards the end.
Mike had good teams in GB and a young Aaron Rodgers, and he only got to one SB.
The year he went 15-1, NYG game to GB and beat him and Rodgers . He only made it to champ game a couple of times if that.
He was decent coach but limited.
Landry had a real GM and a very good personnel guy.
Jimmy did it all himself, he was GM in every way but nam
e.
The coaches since Jimmy have had Jerry for GM, and Cap boy for personnel guy lol
That makes a huge difference.

I like shotty the best , but will admit he has made alot of mistakes, hopefully he is learning from them and will be better next season.
He is in his rookie season and trading parsons a week before season, and having eberflush forced on him, and no control over him and some other things restricts what he can do.
It is hard to be a winner when your GM and personnel guy is Jerry and cap boy.

There is zero evidence that Schottenheimer is trying to “get the guys to like him or be like the players.”
He lets them play that rap music that is popular with all the kids these days.

A real coach would make them listen to Hank Williams, and not that Junior either. He is on the marijuana.

I'll take Coach Schottenheimer. He was handed a mess this year and the team is hanging in there. He's a solid game manager and the players respond to him. Give him a decent defense and see what he can do. His future is bright, even if everyone can't see it yet.
We all had had it with McCarthy’s game management. It seemed like every week we blew timeouts, failed to manage the clock in two minute drill and continuously made bad calls late in games.

Schottenheimer has done pretty good in those situations.

Mikes record is obviously superior, but I never thought the players played for him. We just had better talent and his game prep was pretty solid.

coog why not add a 10th hammer to even it out? just curious. I believe it would make it more visually appealing.
He needs to with a five hammer scale.

I means, everyone knows that five hammers is post of the month and in down.

Nine hammers is just confusing and leads to a never ending cycle of hammers where he has someone with an average comment getting 13 hammers because of the hammer escalation

@Coogiguy03

I'll already take Schottenheimer.

Garrett was dreadful, he was a liability that hurt the Cowboys in every game for 10 years. His playcalling was high school level, and his conservative game management punted away multiple wins on fourth down.

Fat Mike wasn't quite Garrett level dreadful, but he was similar. Overly vanilla playcaller and poor at managing the game.

I think what most people actually "like" about McCarthy's tenure was actually Kellen Moore's work. We saw McCarthy call his own offense in 2024 and it went poorly. We've seen KM call offenses, and they've finished #1 in the league twice and won a Super Bowl (and Hurts' meltdowns in 2023 and this year indicate that the Eagles offense is harder to manage than it looks.).

Schotty is another puppet coach, but he's called a clean, modern offense and hasn't made any big mistakes game management wise. He's not really a plus at head coach, but he's not really a minus. And honestly, he feels very refreshing to me after 15 years of minuses. The Cowboys have lost plenty of games this year, but I wouldn't say we've lost any due to Schotty.

If Jerry will write a check for anything to make this team better, then why hasn't he done so and bring in such a HC?

With a better coach than all three, we win two Super Bowls. So none of them. I know it's early for Schotty, but it's already obvious what he is.

Our 3 most recent coaches, they all have different coaching styles of course, 2 of them may have been here longer than expected. I know it's too early to judge Shotty maybe a bit unfair, but I think he's done some things that other coaches wouldn't have especially when it comes to holding players accountable.

With that said, who do you like most, and why?

Garrett- The Clapper

Big Mike- Mo jo moments

Shotty- Culture!!!
its a no to garrett. yes, he was the clapper and no innovation or anything and a patsy to boot.
MM had power and control his first year and somewhere in the 2nd year, jerry ran rough shot. his last year was a joke and he didn't care.

Shotty is got energy. players seem to respond to him. but he is green as a HC.... he has to solve the Eberflus issue.
