I'm creating a poll here and also here http://polldaddy.com/poll/8161429/

Chuck was a phenomenal athlete and the only athlete ever at WV to letter in 5 sports. He was drafted by the Bears after playing OL at WV. He was released after two years because of a knee injury he was told was career ending.

Landry had the genius to trade for the guy. How the heck he thought he was worth a 2nd rounder I'll never know but danged if it wasn't a steal.

He played the Sam for two years then moved to the Will when Dave Edwards (who doesn't get enough credit either) was put at the Sam. Howley's career took off. He was a tremendous athlete with true 4.5-4.6 speed who was a great coverage linebacker. He had 5 INTs one year (and I think perhaps another). Jordan, Edwards and Howley were perhaps the greatest trio of 4-3 LBers ever (with no apologies to the Steelers of that time). He intercepted two passes in SB V and another in SB VI. He was SB MVP of V and maybe should have won it in VI.

It's a shame he and Jordan don't get the credit they deserve. IMO, Howley was one of the greatest players to ever wear the star.

Was a great athletic player, who helped the Boys get to 2 Super Bowls, I think he was the first defensive player to get SB MVP.

He gets my vote.

Isn't he STILL the only defensive player to win a Super Bowl MVP? I'm asking because I do not recall who has won the MVP in the last five or six Super Bowls.

Yep. Howley should have been in the Hall decades ago.

Howley is just beyond my cognizant football watching career to give an educated opinion. I hear he was better than Lee Roy Jordan and the rest, so I'll say yes, but that's based on other's opinions.

White
Martin
Brown

There's been several defensive players win SB MVP but Howley is the only player to win the SB MVP award on a team that lost the SB.

He measures up favorably to his contemporaries already in the HOF. It's a shame he, Pearson, Harris and Martin aren't already in.

I half to ask:

If Howley be so great, why has he not been inducted?
Bias?
Politics?
Overshadowed by greater players?

Which is it? Something half kept him out for 4 decades.

It would be easy for me to say, "YES" on Howley in the HOF....just look at my handle, Chuck 54....says how highly I regarded him. One of my favorite Cowboys of all time. One of the only four Ring of Honor guys who has never been a HOF finalist, and I'd say he deserves HOF consideration moreso than Meredith, Perkins, or Pearson.
