2 interceptions and a fumble recovery will get you noticed.

He got noticed even playing on the losing team. SB V was arguably the worst played SB some referring to is as the Stupor Bowl due to the poor play, penalties, 11 combined turnovers and the officiating miscues. The Colts committed 7 turnovers which is the most for a winning SB team.

ha ha, Seattle LB won just last SB. Not to mention our own Larry Brown. And Ray Lewis.

You do understand the component that makes your post moot is that Howley was the only defensive player to win the MVP and played on the team that lost, right?

I half to ask:

If Howley be so great, why has he not been inducted?
Bias?
Politics?
Overshadowed by greater players?

Which is it? Something half kept him out for 4 decades.

You're the lone no vote? Turn in your fan card at the door gimme

Yes and there are a few more from those 70's teams that should be also.

Had it not been for those 2 SB losses to the Steelers I'm sure there would be. There's a few Steelers that wouldn't have been inducted had it not been for those SB wins.

He deserves consideration, but playing with LeeRoy Jordan and other greats on that defense hasn't helped him. Unlike Bob Hayes for years and Charles Haley now, I wouldn't say it's a total travesty. It's not. I loved the guy as a player, but he wasn't necessarily an all time great....consideration sure...if inducted, a pleasant surprise, but not shock.

Hayes and Haley....those are two that defy explanation....Chuck isn't in their category.

Yes, .. I'm sure he was better than many that are already in the HOF.

He was an "old school" stud NFL linebacker. Nasty!

Like Jobberbone said in the OP, .. great multi-sport athlete at WVU.

That wasn't the original question that I was responding to. You do understand that, right?

He probably hasn't been inducted because during his prime years the Cowboys were losing to the Packers in championship games. The Packers have a number of players in the HOF who played on those great teams. Dave Robinson an LB on those great Packer teams of the 60's was the last Packer inducted into the HOF in 2013. He played during Howley's era and I'm sure he was chosen ahead of Howley due to those championships and beating the Cowboys.

I believe some were confused because Howley is known as the only player on a losing SB team to win the SB MVP award. I think they confused that with him being the only defensive player to win SB MVP honors.

The Cowboys have 3 more I can think of:

White
Martin
Brown
There's been several defensive players win SB MVP but Howley is the only player to win the SB MVP award on a team that lost the SB.

Alright alright already! I forgot to add the MVP of a losing team part. Sheesh! You guys can be so mean sometimes. :(

Yes he was...but he played his *** off with heart which is what kept him in the game for many years

Trying to figure out what word half 3 letters.
fortunately, the NFL half recognized that playing his *** off with heart is no substitute for playing his *** off with speed, strength and talent.

Beyond Howley the real head scratcher is . . . Martin who is not in?
THAT is a travesty.
