Since Cowboys are scheduled to depart for TC on July 27, that leaves only 12 days to get all 7 (excluding Whitely?) of them signed and on the plane. If we go by past years, we can expect lower round picks to sign early this upcoming week with first day picks coming late in the week or even first few days of week of July 24. I really don't expect that we will have any trouble with any of them--except Watkins whose chip on his shoulder will get any larger when reality really sets in and he sees a 5th round picks contract instead of the 2nd/3rd round contract he hoped for back in April.
Must admit I'm really going to be following Watkins' development. Hope he gets plenty of opportunity to show his potential in TC & preseason games. If he makes the most of his opportunities, he should get a lot more playing time on FS then a 5th round pick would normally see in his first season. Actually I'd love to see him beat out everybody else to win the starting FS job but I really think he needs next year's offseason weight conditioning program to hold his own on the field against the run & the big physical WRs he will see. At 6-5 212# he needs to add some bulk & upper/lower body strength. If he's as smart as they say, he should have started working out with our staff once he graduated.
