Should I be worried of losing Barber?

If you can tell, he's my favorite Cowboy since Irvin (Been a cowboy fan since '90) and it would suck if we lost a great RB.

Also, do you think Barber's Agent (Rosenhaus, right?) will want a **** load of money? God I hope not, Barber just seems like the kid who will do anything for the team.

Rosenhaus' job is to get his clients paid, so yes, he'll want to get Barber a boat load of money. But it's not like clients have no say, if he holds Jerry over the fire, then it's not without Barber's okay to do so.

That being said, I think they will (unfortunately) use Turner's contract as a guideline.

Nah-Rosenhaus is no different from any other *** agent-he just happened to make a name for himself nationally when TO wanted to make a big fuss(for that matter, any other agent would have handled the situation the same way).

MB3 will be a Cowboy next year.

He won't be going anywhere's this year. Now for next year, I hope they get something done before this season starts...but I have a feeling Jerry is wanting to get a feel if he can handle the full load, and sign him during the season next year. Sorta like he did with Romo.

He won't even last till next season. All Jerry has to do is look at AP in Minn and then look at McFadden whos stats and combine were much better. Then he can look at Marion's numbers as the full time back in the playoffs (posted in my sig if you would like to see) and he will be more then willing to move up and grab DMC.
I will not take anything away from Barber he is a GREAT changee of pace back. But thats all he has ever been and thats all he will ever be. I don't understand why you people feel you know more about foot ball then a Hall Of Fame coach. I mean Parcells knew what Barber was but you know better right?
Barber will eventualy get his shot as a starter but it won't be here and when he does you will all be saying how happy you are that we found out what he realy was with another team. But the fact of the matter is that we already know what he is. It cost us the playoff game against the Giants by having him as the starter. He died out in the 2nd half he had 2 yards in 6 of his touches.

I have to admit, the closer McFadden gets, the quicker the novelty of Barber seems to be wearing off for me, personally. Just my opinion, but I think Barber is out the door after this year. We'll give him his one year tender, draft McFadden, and then see McFadden is that good and let Barber walk after next year. Though after winning the Super Bowl next year with the two, it may turn out being a mistake.

Barber isn't going anywhere and since I doubt that McFadden if falling out of the top ten then I don't believe he factors into the equation in any fashion.

I don't see McFadden making it out of the top 10, perhaps even the top five, and unless we want to pay a huge price to move up to get him, he'll be long gone by the time we make our first pick. I certainly appeciate all that Barber does for us, and he'll no doubt get a big contract. My only concern is that due to the fact that Barber plays such a "physical" game, I can't help but wonder how long he'll be able to take the pounding and wear and tear on his body. While I would like to see Barber have a long career for us, although I'm inclined to think that he may be worn down/worn out, and it will probably shorten his career accordingly. I hope I'm wrong, but...

MBIII will play for us this year as the defacto starter. if he proves he can carry the load, he gets signed to a long-term deal, if not, he will be gone elsewhere next year. we will draft a RB high this year (day 1) and possibly one on day 2.
of course all bets are off if we trade up for DMC.

Then let him go.
No way we committ that much money to a "good" RB.

Love Marion - but in today's NFL - he's not worth THAT much money.

I think we'll keep him even if we do somehow get up in the draft to get McFadden, but the smart move might be to have Barber play this yr under the tender contract, see what happens with him (and whomever we draft) this yr and go from there. If Barber has a great yr as a starter we can always put the franchise tag on him next year. If we draft McFadden and he has a great rookie yr, we can do the same and potentially trade Barber for picks after he's franchised

Or as I have thought all along, Jones will find a way to keep both of them long term. I really think having both Barber and McFadden is the best scenario.

yes, the nightmare scenario is a team like Pittsburgh, Houston, Tampa give Barber a huge offer and Dallas has a chance to match it and if they don't they receive a late 1st round pick and a late third. That leaves Dallas relying on a bare free agency class or an untested rookie.

Will any of the top rookies be available that late? Do you want to gamble on a rookie on a superbowl contending team?

If I am Houston or Tampa I would try and sign Barber. He is proven, young and would immediately help them improve.

I think MB3 gets his contract after the draft if one of the top 3 don't fall to us.

We'd have plenty of ammo to move up and get Dmac, Stewart or Mendenhall. We'd still have at least a #1 to get a CB and could also sign a vet, even Shaun Alexander may be available. I love MBIII, but he is not a franchise back IMO.

I don't think Barber or Jones can handle the full load by themselves and that is why they split the carries. Barber is an excellent rb if he is used properly i.e. limiting his carries and sharing time with another good back. We need to draft a rb that will at least be near equal with Barber for Barber's sake as well as the Cowboys'.

No.

Yes.

Neither question has anything to do with McFadden. Who won't be a Cowboy BTW.

I would be really pissed if MBIII Left. the guy has heart and is a great team player. I just don't see how we can move up to take jerry's boy D-Mac.

I think Jerry is holding out hope that somehow, someway, Dmac drops out of the top 10 (any trade into the top 10 is too prohibative, picks wise and dollar wise).

This is the delay in Barbers extension I think. If DMac drops, Jerry will try to make a move and grab him. Most likely what happens is the Jets take DMac at #6 at the latest and Barber gets his extension after the draft.

Odd of us landing DMac are less than 10% I would say, so dont lose any sleep over Baber leaving. He will get his extension the second somebody else drafts DMac.
