Should Isaiah Crowell be suspended (for wanting to kill cops)?

The fact that you've classified this as a black vs white issue just illustrates how far off course this conversation has gone.

That is the exact problem....people can't have an honest debate about anything that involves race and then we wonder why the sides are growing farther and farther apart

The cop in the picture was white and he used language like 'they' and 'us'

I'm sure this will be locked because it touches the third rail

If not I guess a new rule needs to be added against threats and hate speech...

I refuse to believe "the sides" (if the sides are white people vs minorities) are growing further and further apart. That's a really crappy way to look at it, in my opinion.

He should be fined and/or suspended. I wouldn't want to go above the punishments we've seen levied for hate speech already.

I'm curious what interpret Crowell's tweet as meaning when the police officer getting his throat slashed in the picture is white and him writing "and they continue to kill us"?

News: DMN: Browns RB should come to Dallas, apologize to families of slain officers after...

Browns running back Isaiah Crowell's in hot water over an Instagram post he shared illustrating a police officer being killed last week.

Now, the head of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association thinks Crowell needs to come to Dallas and pay a penance to the families of the policemen killed of Thursday's sniper attack.

Crowell's post showed an illustration of a policeman's neck being slashed by a hooded person behind him dressed in all black with an American flag draped over his neck. He deleted the post, but a screenshot of it continued to stir anger online.

Crowell sent his post the day before the Dallas attack as a heat-of-the-moment response to widely publicized police shootings of unarmed black men in Louisiana and Minnesota.

On Tuesday Crowell apologized to Cleveland police chief Calvin Williams in a phone call, according to Cleveland.com. But Stephen Loomis, the president of the patrolmen's association, told TMZ the "store-bought apology" falls short.

"He needs to go to Dallas, help the families who lost their loved ones last week, write them a check, look them in the eyes and give a heartfelt apology."

I know.....they covered the cops at Minnesota Lynx game walking out more thoroughly and of course most of the studio hosts jumped on the cops for being too sensitive and not trying to understand the other side better....

I didn't see anything on PTI or Around the Horn but I could have missed it...it is easy to jump on someone when they make a racist comment about minorities, as it should be, but if the situation is reversed it is crickets and everyone gets afraid to even talk about it

I think part of it is ESPN has been rocked with scandal after scandal about sensitive subjects. Part of it is news has become less about facts but the feeling of the viewership.

And the fact law enforcement around the country has seen an uptick in violence targetting them.

Also I find it pretty pathetic an organization like ESPN decided to post an article at 2:36 today when this image has been up all weekend. Its almost like they were waiting to see what controversy in social media will erupt and gauge how they would respond.

It wasn't up all weekend. It was up for a total of one minute, and it was posted (and taken down) before the shooting in Dallas.

They probably weren't even aware of it until recently because it was up for such a short time and Cromwell is such a nobody, plus there were more important things to discuss. Someone must have tipped them recently to Cromwell's idiocy.

His apology isn't going to fly because it's clearly a prepared statement and more than likely, wasn't written by him. He's going to have to do more to make good.

The old saying when you put something on the internet its there forever. Still find it hard to believe ESPn did not know anything until yesterday or today with cleveland sports talk talking about it.

He should be deported to Syria and forced to roam endlessly through the desert barefooted

He is supposedly donating his first game check, in excess of $32,000 to a police charity.

It would be nice if it seemed like a sincere apology instead of something forced, perhaps even by the Browns as a way to avoid more controversy for punishing him.

Sorry, the same person that published that image does not care about helping police brutality, much less would ever willingly devote money to a police-geared charity.

Pretty presumptuous to donate a game check he may never get.....why not just donate the money right now?

His first apology was a joke but at least his video was more authentic...either way some things just can't be forgotten with an apology

A sincere gesture would be to pay for the funeral services for the slain officers, or at least cover a certain portion of each...

You know, sometimes you have to just accept an apology and move on. There's no way to know how sincere he is, but $32k goes a long way to help out the cause. At some point, the lapse in judgement just isn't that important.

What he did was awful. But I hate the mob approach about demanding an apology, and then tear apart the apology. He may regret his lapse in judgment, but does anyone believe he doesn't feel the same anymore? Maybe he has perspective now, maybe he doesn't. No one believes that Riley Cooper magically has changed a lifetime of behavior due to few days of classes. He "apologized" and that was unfairly torn apart too.

This notion that it's all good now because Crowell donated some money is stupid. His photo was disturbing and he deserves all the public shame he gets and then some. His official punishment by the league shouldn't be anymore than any other non criminal charges. I think it's up to the Browns to get Crowell the help he needs as well as dole out reasonable precedented punishment.
