Just as Jerry got the Newman & Barber deals done due to the opting out of labor deal.... Should Jerry do TO's deal now? Benefits of doing it now? etc...

Thoughts...

I'm all up for extending Ware, Hamlin and T.O. We just need to send RW to speed camp then deal him for something.

The window already passed to stretch out a longer deal, but because of TOs age that wouldn't have been the way to go anyway. If Jerry plans on keeping TOs contract structured like one yr deals he may as well wait until midseason or next offseason. If he plans on structuring a cap friendly deal which would open up more cap space then he might do it sooner but only if he needs the space to sign other guys.

It will happen, at a place and time that Mr. Jones chooses.:star:

Sounds about right. With his age and desire to end his caree in Dallas, no need to rush. Not like some team is gonna come in and offer the guy a 5 year 40 million dollar deal.

Question whether TO would even accept it. Really think he wants to continue to play on a legit SB contender and that also means a quality QB to throw to him--which he already has in Romo. Doubt he'd accept Al Davis money to waste last few years of his NFL career on a Raider team.

I don't think there is a rush on getting this done. I do think they will extend the contract but I think it will take place next off-season

I just think a deal will get done. I think TO trust Jones which is pretty easy when you see how Jerry has taken care of his teammates. Right now I think TO is a bit lower on the priority list of contract that needs to be taken care of.

Yeah... but isnt it funny..... NOT many thought we would be resigning TO when we first got him. I never had any doubt.

TO: Done

Drew Rosenhaus: Next question!

But you are a homer. :lmao2:

I'm glad things have worked out as they have with TO in Dallas. He has shown some maturity that he has not shown at other places and he seems to have a very good relationship with teammates and more importantly the coaching staff.

:D
While I am a homer... I am a rational one... my posts on TO have always been(like his) honest. I have called him on his b/s.

I do know that when he went to philly I thought we had missed out a great opp. It turns out his debacle in philly actually assured the cowboys that it would be different here.

As long as Jery get's it done, I'll be happy. We need T.O. and he wants to be here, I think it will happen mid-season though.

The T.O. contract will not be an easy one. He is 35 in December. At worst, they could franchise him, but I would be real leary about 3 years or more at big money. At some point, he will slow down, and will be more injury prone just due to age. If wants to give the Cowboys a discount, say no more than 3 years at $18M total, it could be ok, otherwise we will be signing Row Williams to replace T.O. or overlap him for 1 year.

Sorry. TO salary is not going down. Probably a similar 3 year deal like he has. Jerry talks about calculated risks. TO is one.
