Should JG let Zeke try for the Eric Dickerson record?

Ground and pound with Dak and Mac in the first half, pedal to the metal with Tony and Zeke in the second half - when the defense is tired.

Garrett should put Zeke in a position to do something no other rookie has ever done....Super Bowl MVP.

Dickerson hangs on to the record because none of his fingers hang onto a SB ring.

If the Cowboys were 5-9 I'd run Zeke into the ground in pursuit of the record. But at 12-2 and the #1 seed I'm limiting his touches - not sitting him, but not handing it to him 30+ times the next 2 games, either. If he gets it, great, but there are bigger goals in reach this season.

Well that is good plan, but way outside the box, so they wont do that.

If you have 2 good backs, and run the guy who can break long runs in the 2nd half or at end of each half, when defense is tired,
there is good chance of him breaking out for td runs.
But nobody in nfl does that.

Parcells did something similar, he used J JOnes till they were at end of long drive, or in 4th qtr would put barber in.
Barber was fresh, and defense was tired, and it worked !
But then Jerry thought barber was better than he really was , and well barber made some big money off of that.

I play Zeke and see how the game is going and how he is doing. I get not wanting to get players hurt but I also get keeping players sharp. I think there is a balancing act the coaches need to work through of keeping the players involved and focused and not over doing it. The notion of shutting down players for over 3 weeks then expecting them to come out sharp and ready to go is not very realistic. Player perform to high level because they play the game not sitting on the sidelines. For those players who are nursing injuries that is different. As for the record I say let Zeke play and based on how he is doing you go from there. Should he put up big numbers and get close to the record then I would let him have the opportunity to break it in Philly.

Well, the upside of EE breaking ED's record is that there's a slim (and I do mean slim) chance that it might shut ED up a little.

I think biggest upside is a big confidence boost to Zeke and the OL. That record would mean just as much to the OL as it would Zeke. Knowing they went out there are a group and took down the record would be a big shot in the arm for all of them

Well yeah, there's that too. :D I still like the notion of ED fading away into relative obscurity.

I actually appreciate his honesty. Its his arrogance I can do without.

There is a lot of arrogance around the NFL in the past and today. I would think most would feel Irvin was arrogant I would just say the man played and acted with a lot of self confidence. Same with Dickerson

In 92 Jimmy did not sit Emmitt when he had a chance to beat out Sanders for his 2nd NFL leading rusher title that season Emmitt had 1,713 to Sanders 1,690 . Emmitt would play week 17 and put up 131 on 20 carries. I did not see Jimmy protecting player and I don't expect Garrett protecting players either.

Some may feel this record means nothing? That is BS it means something, anytime a player has a chance to make NFL history it is big and any coach would give that player the opportunity to achieve that mark. I do think Zeke will have to be in range after the Lions game to get a shot at the record but if fairly close to it I think he will get that chance

So we are incapable of doing both? Jeez
Incapable? No but would you want to chance him getting injured? The bigger picture should be every players focus. If those individual accomplishments happen during the process, cool. You don't risk for something that's not needed. Especially in meaningless games.

Let him play his normal game and see what happens. No need to rest him and no need to over expose him either. Don't change anything. The playoffs are what really count. Although, l am sure Elliott would love a shot a breaking Eric's record. Human nature.;). The Cowboys need his yards and they need to win the last two games.
