I remember the day JJ held the press conference announcing the hiring of PB - the worst kept secret. I remember thinking we were on the right track and we finally had a disciplinarian who wouldn't take stuff from Jerry like the guys before him. We were in awe of his press conferences. He is quite the quote magician. So we ate the cheese and waited for things to improve. We had high expectations, making excuses for whatever flaws we saw. We said In Bill We Trust. But the results fell short of what we expected from a BP-coached team. Well short.
Then Big Bill took too long to make his decision just like last year. And he walked away, leaving his assistants in no-man's land since most coaching staffs are already completed and the new head coach will undoubtedly want his own staff (at least I hope so).
So after 4 years of "this is the year", here we are with no playoff victories during that span and 4 consecutive December collapses. Granted, the talent level is improved and we may have our QB of the future (Romo needs a mentor and quick). But is this team as close to contending as we would like to think? My hope is that the next coach will take this talent, add some missing pieces and show the world that BP did indeed have the Dallas Cowboys headed in the right direction. Did Tuna leave this team better than it was before he took over? Yes. But if we find a GOOD head coach to replace him, yet the Bradie Jameses, Marcus Spearses and Roy Williamses of the world continue to disappoint, then we should in fact consider ourselves sucked.
