Should we give Martellus Bennett some looks at Wideout?

Maybe just a look to see what he can do there?

Not permanently of course .... I just want them to utilize his freakish athletic ability.

He seems to have good speed ...... good hands ..... natural running motion.

Guy reminds me of tape I have seen on Harold Carmichael who was a favorite of my Dads (even though he was a Eagle most of his career)

Maybe I am just bored ..... ;) ...... But I would really like to know what a few of the Football minds on this board think about it.

They've done it with Witten at times so I don't think its out of the question.

My thought is he could probably only do it till he is like 23 or 24 ..... being as big as he is ..... but while he is young and fast maybe we could sneak him in there a time or two in a game.

Especially against undersized corners.

I was watching the Saints the other night and that thought crossed my mind. The saints did the same thing with Colston. I'm not sure about his speed, but I could see some great match up problems for opposing defenses.

I'm sure we will eventually want to be able to move Martellus Bennett around the formation to create match-up problems. The question is how fast can a talented rookie pick up multiple positions?

Marty B's big reception against the Texans came after he lined up in the backfield as a H-back, so we're already seeing some versatility out of him.

Aggiemite is a match-up nightmare for opposing defenses, I'm sure Jason Garrett wants to utilize that advantage as quickly as possible.

He gets better matchups as a TE. But he'd get more snaps out there. I could see this in certain situations but you get more firepower out of a WR than a TE. On the goaline it would be interesting. Probably ready for it more next year or later this year.

He isn't *that* fast... And he's too good a blocker to not take advantage of that inside.

Bennett is slow and you are crazy.
Crazy and bored.

Goal line WR is where I would start ..... So his blocking skills would come in plenty useful there.

How many times have we seen Crayton or Hurd trying to block for Barber when he breaks one to the outside.

Terrell Owens --- 6' 3" - 4.36 40 time
Patrick Crayton --- 6' -- 4.51 40 time
Sam Hurd ------- 6' 3" - 4.61 40 time
Martellus Bennet - 6'6" - 4.68 40 Time

Pat and Sam are not that much faster ...... especially considering Bennett has between 3 to 6 inches on them and 30 to 40 pounds.

And guys I am only talking about a play here and there ..... not a full time switch.

Could not have said it better. Well...actually...I could. I will say this:

He IS NOT fast... And he's too good a blocker to not take advantage of that inside.

We will probably see him out there some. Maybe from H back role, maybe split wide or he just runs a shallow flat route. It's not a crazy idea. He could create a mismatch problem.

But first he needs to prove he can get open somewhere beside the goal line and catch the ball before they trust him. I can see him causing problems in the red zone.

But just as he's not much slower than Hurd he's also not much faster than Witten in real time football plays.

It's not crazy and it's not a done deal. Besides he looks more like Novachek than he does TO.

You know what was even stranger? Seeing Harold Carmichael in a Dallas uniform in a preseason game in the mid-to-late '80s. I think it was his last stop before hanging it up.
John Jefferson, too, either that same year or a little later.
Neither one had anything left in the tank at that point.

Don't know how many of those 40 times are accurate, but I don't care. He'd probably be the slowest wr in the NFL if he was a wr. He's got nice speed for a BIG TE, that's about it.
