Should we keep Collins at the 3 and let Crawford rotate at the 1

With his shoulder issues maybe him rotating may be best for him. What to you guys think

Thought about that too. Crawford is very good vs the run, if Collins shows progressing through training camp , I'm saying it wouldn't hurt to take a look. I think Crawford would be a great 1 tech. Atleast better than Thornton.

If Crawford is healthy, he will show up in a rotational job. I don't think that he will bump out to end...and doesn't enamor me for a one slot.

I think he and Collins rotate at 3-tech. I just hope he doesn't get handed the starting job due to contract. Collins has earned it.

I think Thornton and Paea are your early down/ passing down 1-tech rotation.

Unless Crawford blows up...this could be his last year in Dallas. My guess is that if he doesn't produce early and often, he
will slowly be phased out. There are hungry, young guys waiting to move him out.

We'll probably see Crawford/Collins rotating at the 3 on early downs and then Collins moving over to the 1 in obvious passing situations. Paea/Thornton at the 1 on running downs, otherwise. And we'll see Crawford rotating out to DE in some situations, too as we get everybody their snaps.

Yes.

Whether it's rotating snaps at the 3-tech or being the full time 1-tech, Crawford should never leave the inside; he had no business on the outside as a DE unless it's on a goal line situation.

I do feel for him in that the coaches have toyed with him having him gain weight/shed weight to play different positions. He's no superstar but he's a solid/good player which we need more off.

Craw is a 3 and not and end by any stretch of the imagination. And cant play the 1 very well I dont think. This is his last season. Irving, Collins and Taco have so much more versatitlity

One of the things I am looking forward to this season is having Collins and Crawford playing together on the inside. If Crawford is healthy it gives us two athletic DT's. I think Paea or Thornton may get the start at the 1tech on "running downs," But Collins and Crawford will both end up the with most snaps, many of them coming together. I can also imagine Irving getting a number of snaps inside when he is not playing at LDE.

With Tyrone Crawford's hefty contract situation and possibly being pushed out of the conversation to land a spot at defensive end, his best chance at starting would be as the three-technique tackle. If so, can you see Maliek Collins excelling at the one-technique position?

Bryan: I was really impressed with what we saw from Collins last season and there is no question in my mind that he can excel at the one technique. His strength and quickness are a real plus for the position. He is one of those guys that I believe you can line up at either spot and he’d be just fine.

Rob: As good as Collins was at the three-technique last year, I’d be inclined to leave him there. He does have the size and strength to play it, though. I do wonder where Crawford best fits because I think he can play just about anywhere, yet there's a real logjam at defensive end now. Pairing him with Collins probably makes the most sense.

Exactly just put both of them in the middle. Gives us the best chance to get to the QB. One thing I like about line is the versatility

Sadly Crawford's full potential won't be evident until he's an entire season removed from injury/surgery. That likely means he will be one of those guys who shines late as in season 6 or 7. Doubt we wait that long unless he takes a paycut.

Back on topic, he's a couple biscuits shy of being a 1-Tech plus taking on double teams with bad shoulders might make him regress even more...

The sooner we move on from Crawford the better. He gets paid as a top 10 DT and lost his job to a rookie last season who missed all of training camp. One of the lone terrible decisions this front office has made the last few years, I immediately hated that extension and knew we would be regretting it

Versatility can be a good thing, but crawfords "versatility" label is more the product that he hasn't excelled in any position

Yup. I remember getting the notification on my phone and thinking to myself he has to have pictures of someone in the organization

People are still looking for ways where Crawford will fit, but the truth is, he'll be gone after this season so there's no sense trying to get too cute. He'll spell Collins at the 3 and get some snaps from elsewhere. He'll be off the team along with Lawrence after this season.
