Should we re-sign Leary?

Zack Martin gets extended next off season, bank on that. I'd assume the Fredbeard deal + an upward adjustment for the increasing cap. Could go higher then that, but signing this early does tend to get the team a slight discount.

Collins is under contract for 2017, and a RFA for 2018, means we control him for two years still with a cap hit of under 4 million total. He's not going anywhere.

Leary feels like a luxury. He's the 4th best player in his unit. He's not an elite player. He's likely going to get paid by someone who has line problems for more then he's worth because the really good guards aren't hitting FA that often any more. Looking at comps I'd imagine he's in the 4-6 million dollar range, assuming some team doesn't pay stupid money for him. Assuming he gets that deal that seems like a 4th round comp pick in return and money to spend to increase other facets.

We're going to need to add talent at WR, DE, LB, CB, S without doing too much of a dive into the depth chart and accounting for injury prone players. Is Leary a better player, for instance, then Barry Church? In a vacuum yes, but knowing that we have Collins that could start at LG next year it just really feels like that money should be allocated elsewhere. Leary's likely deal wouldn't be too dissimilar to what a mid level DE gets, and I'll guarantee you that a mid level DE makes more of an impact next year then the move from Collins to Leary.

As usual, you can really want to resign a guy but he wants too much or a team offers him an insane deal he can't refuse. A lot does depend on how happy a guy is with his current team. Many times guys who could've bolted to another team for more $ chose to stay here for less.
