My expectations never were high. I take every Jaylon Smith great news thread as wishful thinking.
Until he proves it he is nothing more than potential that can't play at an NFL level less than 100% healthy.I won't join the rest of you on the hype train.

me either - I mean he has to play in a game - I mean a game where he has to fight off 300 lbs OLineman -

Let anyone think what they want. who cares over all, now if you engage in debate , it could end badly. Lets all start off optimistic for our players, but time will prove one side correct.

I want Smith on the field next to Lee on every snap from day 1. With Lee in his ear every play. With Lee in his ear everyday in film. By playoffs they will be a force.

Should We Temper Expectations For Cowboys Linebacker Jaylon Smith?

...There is the hype. We as fans always expect the best, and grudgingly tolerate anything less. Jaylon Smith, in perfect health, might find it tough to live up to every prognostication. Having him play next to Sean Lee brings back memories of Dallas defenses long since retired, and that will be a lot to live up to. Expectations are high for Jaylon, but we may be setting the bar too high thanks to past experiences that have only been magnified with the passing of time.

Talent alone will not get him there. Time and hard work is what will allow Smith a shot to earn a place beside a name like Lee Roy Jordan, if it does come to that. For now Smith is a ballplayer looking to make a name for himself in the game, not one ready to have his name etched into the Ring of Honor. Keep that in mind when setting his expectations. There are few who have seen the progress that has been made who come away with long term doubts, a second round gamble looks ready to pay off in spades for the Cowboys.

"He's the complete package. Physically, mentally, it's a matter of time before he's a dominant player. He's put the work in." - Sean Lee The thing to remember is that the key words in Lee's statement are 'it's a matter of time'. Don't expect Jaylon Smith to be an All Pro on his first professional snap. At this point in his career the next major goal will be for him to become a contributing member of the Dallas Cowboys defense. Once that happens then he can begin his quest to stardom.
For me I always have. If JS proves otherwise, that's a bonus. I look at him as a low round draft pick, that's as far as my expectations take me.

Well my expectations have been low of Jaylon, but since we didn't draft a LB, it does stand out they must expect alot out of him.

I just hope they don't rush him cause of hype.

I honestly have no expectations. I'm expecting him to live the rest of his life in a wheelchair while being mocked as a draft bust.

Anything more than that is a win.

Let's face it -- Jaylon is an injured player with a lot to prove. Yes, he's working his tail off to return to what he once was, although the burden of proof is on him to show that he's recovered nearly as much as he wants everyone to believe. My hopes outweigh my expectations by far. I'd like nothing better than to see him perform like an all-pro from the get-go. Better judgment tells me it might be wise to remain patient throughout 2017.

When my own price is just paying for hoping on a Cowboy player...I'll pay the price, if disappointment is in order. In the mean time, I'm expecting a real champion to walk out of the end of the tunnel.

He said he will be on the field week 1, so that is my hope. Jerry has hyped this thing up a lot and while he isn't always right, I don't think he wants the backlash either if Jaylon isn't ready to go. I expect him to suit up week 1. What is role will be, not sure.

I think he'll be a good player.

But I can also see him starting the season on PUP.

He limps very noticeably after every practice.
