I think he'll be a good player.

But I can also see him starting the season on PUP.

He limps very noticeably after every practice.
Except his drop foot is improving and he's on schedule for it not to be an issue by then.

There is no schedule for a nerve. None. It might have already heal as much as it ever will. He might have to wear that brace for his entire career.

Two NFL players have come back to play with that injury. The rest never returned.

I think he'll play, but will he ever get to wear he moves as well as Anthony Hitchens? We'll see. I certainly hope he can.

When my own price is just paying for hoping on a Cowboy player...I'll pay the price, if disappointment is in order. In the mean time, I'm expecting a real champion to walk out of the end of the tunnel.

No problem -- I can honestly promise you that I'm paying the price of hoping my heart out for Jaylon to be the guy he was when he played for Notre Dame. I'll also gladly pay the price for him to lead the defense to being what it once was back in the days of the Doomsday Defense.

He's already proven he's a champion, as far as I'm concerned, by the way he's remained focused, determined and rehabbed, undaunted by all that stood in his way. That, despite all of the barriers that have challenged him thus far. If that's not the heart of a champion, I'm quite sure I don't know what is. I do, truthfully, believe that he'll prove himself, given time. In other words, I'm merely unsure as to when it will occur on the field.

This is your opinion which is wrong if you paid attention to what the Jones' have relayed from Dr Cooper and what Doc50 has stated numerous times.

The dude limps noticeably after a short practice, and he doesn't practice two days in a row.

And there's not a doctor in the world that can predict if and when a nerve will heal.

I've watched all the videos as intently as humanly possible and haven't been able to detect the slightest limp of any kind. Also, I think the reason why he hasn't practiced on consecutive days is mostly a precaution that the staff is making him do for safety sake, to prevent an incident of a possible setback. There's no real need right now to push him too far -- best to err on the side of caution.

I think he will be an impact player and start from the beginning. He will make big plays. Next year, he will be a top LB in football.

Should We Temper Expectations For Cowboys Linebacker Jaylon Smith?

...There is the hype. We as fans always expect the best, and grudgingly tolerate anything less. Jaylon Smith, in perfect health, might find it tough to live up to every prognostication. Having him play next to Sean Lee brings back memories of Dallas defenses long since retired, and that will be a lot to live up to. Expectations are high for Jaylon, but we may be setting the bar too high thanks to past experiences that have only been magnified with the passing of time.

Talent alone will not get him there. Time and hard work is what will allow Smith a shot to earn a place beside a name like Lee Roy Jordan, if it does come to that. For now Smith is a ballplayer looking to make a name for himself in the game, not one ready to have his name etched into the Ring of Honor. Keep that in mind when setting his expectations. There are few who have seen the progress that has been made who come away with long term doubts, a second round gamble looks ready to pay off in spades for the Cowboys.

"He's the complete package. Physically, mentally, it's a matter of time before he's a dominant player. He's put the work in." - Sean Lee The thing to remember is that the key words in Lee's statement are 'it's a matter of time'. Don't expect Jaylon Smith to be an All Pro on his first professional snap. At this point in his career the next major goal will be for him to become a contributing member of the Dallas Cowboys defense. Once that happens then he can begin his quest to stardom.

They talk about it locally quite a bit among the media. He's still got a lot of healing to do.

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me at all, really. We'll just have to be patient and hope he's able to overcome the obstacles. He's done really well, considering how far he's had to come thus far. Seeing as how the FO has invested their time, money and energy up until now, it'd certainly be to their advantage to see it through at this point in time.

We'll just have to wait and see how much progress he makes in the weeks ahead and remain patient. I'm sure the staff will know what to do when the time comes to either go forward or cut bait. It's hard to even think of it in those terms right now, though. The team and its fans will just have to keep hoping for the best 'til then. Jaylon has put up quite a fight so far -- here's hoping it's a fight he'll win.
