Anything Dallas does regarding Julius Jones has nothing to do with salary-cap space. They have plenty of cap room to do whatever they want. They don't think he's an elite runner. They're likely going to ship him off on draft day.

Is this becoming an annual event?

If this were to happen I would hope Dallas would hold out for a 2nd rd pick at the least. I know Jones has down played these rumors but then again no one is going to show their cards until they have to.

Typical lead up to the draft. Let's re-invent an old story and attempt to breathe life into it. If the Cowboys got an obscene offer for Jones, they'd probably take it. Are thay planning to trade him? Not likely. They got decent production from their two-back systen last year and there's no reason to think that it won't continue.

The same people who are saying get rid of Julius will be the same people to complain about getting rid of him when he blows up somewhere else.

I don't want him gone I want better production and less excuses by those who blame Parcells for Jones own shortcoming. If he stays in Dallas then I do see this as a make or break season for him as his contract with the club will be finished. In the meantime Jerry has not said anything about extending the contract of Jones despite the fact we are still well under the cap limit.

The original source of this blurb is from JJT's Q & A he wrote up yesterday.
Q: Given that the Cowboys will have a number of big contracts to handle next year, do you feel they are thinking about trading Julius Jones or just letting him leave after next year? I hate the idea of letting a decent asset get away without getting something for him.

TAYLOR: I'm getting this question in various forms each week. Let me say this, anything Dallas does regarding Julius has nothing to do with salary-cap space. They have plenty of cap room to do whatever they want. That said, I would be shocked if the Cowboys sign him because they don't think he's an elite runner. I continue to think they're going to ship him off on draft day.
I think Jacques has a point that the team may very well think that. But they may however, let him play out this year, and then let his play this season prove whether he's worth an extension. While some folks are ready to toss him, many of us thought Gurode wasn't worth two nickles after the 2005 season.

If he runs like he has the past couple of seasons, I would not mind shopping him. And don't start showing me stats, I can read.

I mean missing holes and running straight into his blockers with little or no vision.

However, I feel that Parcells restricted him by always having him overly concerned about negative yardage runs and fumbles.

I want to find out if that was the case.

If he runs the same way this season, then I think we can do better.

I actually thought Gurode could have been a better guard if he didnt suck playing next to Al and Tucker those two seasons.

But now if we look at MB3 and our "new OLine" it seems to be much more of a power game and is Julius a between the tackles RB? I dont think so, I think we will try to trade him but if it happens, I couldnt tell ya. I wouldnt care if he was traded or if he wasnt, he still doesnt seem as a bonafide 25 carries a game guy....

I can only see Julius traded if say one of the teams in round one miss out on Lynch-(Cal)..either Green Bay or Titans...and want to offer up their # 1 for Jones...even so..who backs up Barber then? Thompson? I dont want that to happen.

Jones is not worth a #1. At most he'd probably go for a 3rd.

And if they trade Julius, then they'll prolly draft another one. Can't say very many of the RBs in the draft this year excite me. I'd rather go with Julius for one more year and then see who's in the draft next year if they decide to let him walk.

I thik JJT has a point with getting something in return for an asset before he is set to walk. However, I'd really only be inclined to trade JJ away if he could be packaged to move up and take one of the home run hitters (Lynch or AP)...which is highly unlikely to happen.

You can't get more than a 3rd for Jones.

And in the 3rd if you use that pick on a RB, you might be looking at guys like Antonio Pittman, Tony Hunt and Brandon Jackson. Of those three, I think only Pittman has any upside above Jones. You might also look at spending a pick on Bush in the hopes he becomes your RB a year later.

What we could do is, if Green Bay passes on Lynch, try to use Jones to trade up to get Marshawn Lynch at 17. That might be a good idea.

exactly, im not a big fan of jones, but he is going to be better this year than a rookie drafted in 3rd round would be for this year.

Agreed, and why would some team give us a high draft pick if they know JJ will become a free agent any way and can get him for free.

Personally, I don't think he will be traded and he will be back to his rookie self next year. I think he became robotic under Parcells.

Me too. I would like to see one more year from him to see if can be more productive under a new philosophy and better O-line.

Again... I would like to see one more year... if more of the same... then BE GONE! He is getting an EXTRA Landry Year to prove it. Blame Parcell's for the Mulligan.... perhaps?

As I said I think this is make or break time for him. I don't agree that Parcell affected him in some games yet did not seem to faze him in others. Jones like any back has to make people miss and or break tackles, you’re not going to get holes as big as a truck on every carry and many times you have to make your yardage off your skills and vision as a RB. BP wanted Jones to do a better job of holding on to the ball that however should not affect you to the point that you’re running up the backside of your linemen or flat out missing running lanes. To me this is on Jones no one else and if he is to have a future on this team he has to step it up and show some consistency in his play.

I hear ya.... who knows really? I did say "perhaps?"

Lets hope he can show something this year.

I DID like his play in Seattle game after getting antagonized. He RESPONDED. HE RESPONDED WHEN IT MATTERED. (thats bigger than any stats for me)

I would like to see some consistency with THAT!
